To Catch a Bear: A TMU Thesis film

Hi, my name is Maya Chariandy and I’m the writer and director of To Catch a Bear. Going into my final year of film school, I felt compelled to create something fiercely personal, softened through the lens of childlike magic. Thus, To Catch a Bear was born. Our team has been working incredibly hard for the past three months, and we’re gearing up for another two months of intense pre-production before we go to camera. But in order to get there, we’re calling for your help. Community support is integral to student filmmaking, and by donating or sharing our campaign you become an essential part of bringing this film to life. Our budget will be dedicated to securing key locations, transportation, production design elements, and essential equipment. These resources will ensure the comfort and safety of our cast and crew working through the cold Ontario winter. Contributions of any size make a meaningful impact, and your support will help us execute this project with the care, artistry, and ambition it deserves.

Logline:
Defying grandma Jean’s warnings of danger, Malakai is determined to find a bear. He scours the magical forest, discovering mystical beings that lead to Jean finally reuniting with her lost daughter after decades of grief.
