Help bring Sheena home

We the friends of Sheena King are reaching out to you today for financial support to help Sheena return to her home in St. John’s, following a recent partial leg amputation, a life changing event that has added layers of difficulty to her already complex medical journey.

Sheena is originally from Forteau, Labrador, but has lived in St. John’s for 30 years. Jeff, her husband and soulmate of over 25 years, is her best supporter along with their dearly loved pup, Rufus. Sheena and Jeff make quite a team and he stands by her side through the good times and bad. Her mom and dad Audrey and John Dumaresque, left their home in Forteau in early March to help Sheena and Jeff during this difficult time. They have been a tremendous source of loving support both at home and during long hours at the hospital.

Over the past few years, Sheena has faced more than her fair share of health challenges. Despite it all, she’s remained strong, resilient, and full of determination.

She is currently at the St. Clare’s Hospital recovering from surgery and showing the same grit and strength that has defined her throughout her life. But she can’t return home until essential modifications are made to her home. These include wheelchair-accessible entrances, a stairlift, bathroom renovations, and other mobility-related upgrades that will allow her to live safely and independently in her home.

Sheena has always been a hard worker, someone who gave her all to everything she did. She spent her career in various roles, always showing up with dedication and a smile. Her last position was with Public Works, where she worked tirelessly to help keep things running smoothly for everyone in the department. Sadly, in 2022, after contracting COVID-19, Sheena was forced into early medical retirement due to the long-term effects of the illness as well as from dialysis—a turn of events that deeply impacted her physically, emotionally, and financially.

Now, Sheena needs us. We’re reaching out to our community—friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers—to ask for your support. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring Sheena one step closer to getting back home, where she belongs and where she can begin to rebuild her life with dignity and independence.
