Hi, my name is Laura Eghobamien — I am a scientist and an advocate for marginalised scientists. I am also the founder of the Black Medical Scientific Network (BMSN), a Community Interest Company established in 2020 to increase the visibility and representation of Black scientists in the UK and beyond.

Our ongoing portraiture project, in collaboration with James Bell, Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University of the Arts Norwich, is a powerful and visually striking initiative that challenges the narrative of who can contribute to scientific discovery. To date, we have received some funding and photographed over 25 scientists across London and Cambridge.

We now aim to expand this project to other regions of the UK — and eventually, internationally. To achieve this, we are seeking additional support to continue this inspiring work. We hope these portraits will serve as a lasting source of inspiration, particularly for young people who may not often see successful Black scientists represented in the media or in education.

I am honoured to have recently been selected as one of the winners of the 50 Under 50 Global Award, which celebrates outstanding female entrepreneurs and founders. I am truly elated to receive this recognition — it represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with global founders, innovators, and venture capitalists. During the event, I will have the chance to pitch our mission to potential investors and supporters.

As a not-for-profit organisation, our resources are limited. I am therefore asking for your kind support to help fund this trip and enable us to expand the impact of the Black Medical Scientific Network.

Your donation — no matter the size — will help us continue to empower and inspire the next generation of Black scientists.
Thank you sincerely for your generosity and support.

Warm regards,
Laura Eghobamien
