On Christmas morning, my boyfriend Chris and I took our baby Mateo to the emergency room, thinking he had an ear infection. Instead, we were faced with every parent’s worst nightmare—Mateo was diagnosed with leukemia.

Mateo has already been admitted to the hospital, had a port placed, and has started chemotherapy. He will be staying in the hospital for the next few weeks as he begins this fight for his life.

As a young mother, I’ve had to pause my college classes, and my focus is now entirely on Mateo. Chris and I are doing everything we can to support our son during this unthinkable journey.
