On June 6, 2014, Christopher presented to the emergency room at a local hospital with what he described as , "the worst headache of his life." It was then that a CT scan and MRI confirmed that Chris had a 6cm x 5.5cm mass in the right side of his brain. Two days later Chris underwent surgery to remove this large mass, the surgery was a success and he recovered extremely quickly and was back home in a few short days. Within a week after surgery pathology results were back. Myself and my family sat there with Chris while the neurosurgeon disclosed to us with what was our worst fear, cancer. Stage IV Glioblastoma. It was hard to comprehend, how can my brother who is so young and has never been sick a day in his life have cancer? Why did this happen? Why him?? But as we all know, cancer doesn't pick and choose. Chris was ready to fight this battle and we were all ready to fight right along with him. After he healed from the surgery Chris began 6 weeks of radiation therapy and took chemo medication one week out of every month for an entire year. He was able to return to work and continued to live his life as he did before being diagnosed. And then on June 1, 2015, which was almost a year to the date of when he presented to the ER with a massive headache, Chris went in for an MRI which he normally did every 3 months throughout that first year and it showed the tumor had started to regrow. June 24, 2015 Chris underwent his second brain surgery, again he did very well and recovered extremely fast. Chris shortly after then began a new chemotherapy treatment which came to a halt in November when he was admitted to the hospital with blood clots in his right leg and all over his lungs. The chemotherapy practically wiped out all of his white blood cells and hemoglobin. He needed multiple blood transfusions and was eventually started on blood thinners to help dissolve all the clots. He spent an entire week in the ICU followed by another week on a progressive care unit. I believe Chris has many angels watching over him, but they were definitely watching over him on that hospital stay. In December 2015 Chris' care was taken over by Dr. Omuro at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. He was started on a clinical trial in January which unfortunately only lasted for one short month. Chris began developing increased weakness in the left side of his body and he was starting to have trouble walking which prompted a phone call to Dr. Omuro to make him aware. Within a few days we were back up in NY for Chris to have an MRI and we had learned that day that the tumor had progressed. We immediately met with a wonderful neurosurgeon that day, Dr. Gutin and on February 25, 2016 Chris underwent his 3rd brain surgery. He is now recovering well but will need alot of therapy to help him to regain some of the strength that he has lost. Chris has been unable to work since the beginning of November and with medical bills and travel expenses to and from NY, he can really use the help. Chris is by far the strongest person I know, he has a big heart and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. I know that he will appreciate anything that we can all do for him. Thank you all so much and lets continue to show our support and join in this fight with him...Organizer and beneficiary
