Hello, our names are Ally and Tessa and we are fundraising for our good friend Adam Marshall who was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer. He will be starting treatment soon and will not be able to work during this time.
Adam is a great friend and person and we are hoping this will help him through this tough journey. Anything and everything is so appreciated!
Message from Adam:
Hi, my name is Adam Marshall, I’m 28 years old and I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Within the past couple of months, my world has flipped and I have had to confront many things I thought I would never have to face. I wanted to share some things about myself and provide context for who I am outside of having cancer.
I grew up in Oakbank, Manitoba with a large family. I graduated from Springfield Collegiate Institute in 2012 and the following year my family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. At this time my brother was posted here with the military and it was decided that my parents, two brothers and I would move here to remain together. In 2014 I went to school for Music Production at the Center for Arts and Technology in downtown Halifax. Since I’ve moved to Halifax I have learned to love it here. Whether it’s the people I’ve met skateboarding all over the province or the friends I’ve made through musical collaboration, I can’t think of a better place to live.
On June 8th, 2022 I was diagnosed with cancer, two days later I had a radical orchiectomy. Although my situation could be worse had I left it for longer, the treatment plan is going to be exhausting and time-consuming. Beginning in the middle of July I will go through nine weeks of chemotherapy. At which time I can not work. One of the side effects of this treatment is loss of fertility. My best course of action is to freeze my sperm in order to maintain hope of having children in the future. While this is a good option, it is expensive, not covered through healthcare and is recurring.
Money donated to this fund will go towards my monthly expenses (rent, healthy food, bills, medications and counselling), will give me the option of freezing my sperm and help with many other unforeseen difficulties that may come as a result of my situation. This fund gives me financial security and the ability to have a fresh start after treatment and continue to pursue my dreams.
Post-cancer I want to pursue my creative interests in music, art and entertainment and eventually create a career from it. Since being diagnosed I’ve gained a new appetite for not only living a full life but being successful and fulfilled in it.
