My name is Maddie, mother of two, teacher, spouse, sister, niece, friend, Santa Cruz County local for over 5 years and a California native who grew up in Bakersfield. I have so much to contribute in the world and want to be the best I can be.

 

I’m asking for your help to get the support I need as I try to cover the cost of training and care for a service dog through Doggie Does Good service dog organization.  My fundraising goal is $20,000, or $2,000 per month over the next 10 months while my dear sweet poodle, Bosie, is being trained.  Getting a trained service dog will help me manage numerous issues life has thrown at me.

 

I am diagnosed with PTSD, brought on through severe childhood trauma starting as a toddler, and complicated through violence suffered as an adult. This is a diagnosis shared by 1 in 13 people nationwide.

I also have a gene variant that can affect my heart, nervous system, and connective tissue such s as skin, joints, blood vessel walls, etc. I have needed one heart procedure so far and just recently had major abdominal surgery due to my connective tissue issue.

My condition has improved substantially through work with therapists and psychiatrists, in support groups, through diet and exercise and more. At this stage, healthcare professionals agree that working with a service dog is a logical next step forward in my recovery.

 

This vital treatment comes with a cost as properly trained service dogs ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000. Thanks to support, I’ve been able to put down the deposit required, and a dog trained specifically for my needs will be available in 10 to 12 months.
