Bardsey Bird Observatory is raising money for a solar panel system so that they can reduce their consumption of fossil fuels. Since 1994, the Observatory has used a noisy and dirty diesel generator for electricity production, but now they are looking to reduce their carbon footprint by replacing it with a solar panel system, but they need your help.
We began raising money initially to extend a small solar array for powering fridges and freezers so we do not have to use gas, however, we have now decided to reduce our fossil fuel consumption further and make the array and project larger. Once installed the proposed solar array will produce enough power to eliminate the use of the generator and will power the whole Observatory complex and make the island a cleaner, greener and more peaceful place. We are looking to raise a further £5000 to add to donations already received for the system which will cost about £11,000 in total.
