I’m reaching out because I have been struggling against depression for more than ten years and am seeking to raise funds for a promising medical therapy for treatment-resistant depression.

I’ve been trying to find relief for years through medication, sobriety, life changes and hours upon hours of therapy. These last few years have been particularly hard for me — as they have been for many of us. My depression has reached unprecedented levels of life disruption. On Oct 15th, at the advisement of my counselor and primary care provider, I began a 3-month medical leave from my job as a digital product designer. As I continue my traditional depression treatment under the care of my primary care doc, counselors and psychiatrist, I aim to do an FDA-approved therapy called TMS. Even if my insurance approves this, we will be on the hook for $6,000 over the course of a few weeks. While I still have health insurance, our rate is increasing company-wide. This isn’t something Karianne and I can cover on our own, so we are reaching out for support to fill in the gaps.

We’ve already been blessed many times by people who supported us during Karianne’s battle with cancer. It’s hard for me to ask for help — which is something I’m working on in all aspects of my life — but for the sake of my marriage, family and future, it’s worth braving the discomfort and being vulnerable with my community about this need.

As you can imagine, this has been unbelievably difficult. We’d also greatly appreciate prayers for navigating this season for our little family. My greatest prayer is that Benny wouldn’t even remember this challenging season and that all he would remember is that the dad he knows and loves is healthy, present, and stable.
