Back in October of 2023 my 16 y/o son Connor, had a seizure at school one day out of the blue. During all the testing to find out what caused his seizure, the doctors discovered that he also has Papillary Thyroid Cancer. In one week he got a double diagnosis of Atypical Abson Seizure Epilepsy and Thyroid Cancer. He has been in a military academy for the last 5 yrs and had dreamed of joining the military. That has also been pulled out from under him. Now for the cherry on top. 3 weeks ago he broke his hand. It was splinted in the ER, but it took 3 weeks to get him into an orthopedic appointment to get it casted. At some point during that three weeks, the bone unset, and now he is looking at surgery and pins. We have medical insurance, but even with that, medical, and travel expenses are quickly drowning us. His cancer doctors and surgery are all in Southern California, and his Epilepsy and Ortho doctors are all in the Fresno area. So far, we are up to about $5k in bills that aren't covered by insurance, but thats just the tip of the iceberg, and not all of the bills have arrived.
