Hello! Most of you know us as the "crazy family that will do anything to save animals!" We will proudly carry that title any day!
Our family opened our rescue, The Long Way Home Rescue, in 2008, after finding a starving mom on a freezing night at a gas station with 6 puppies.
We jumped in with both feet and never looked back.
We first started rescuing out our home, then extended into the garage converted to a doggie palace, then in 2022 we finally opened our Adoption Center.
This 1,000 sq ft "house" allows our rescue pups to be in a home-like environment to heal, rest, and socialize with other homeless animals until adopted.
Since 2008, our family has taken in approximately 5,000 animals in need. We rehabilitate, completely vet, and carefully select the perfect family for each and every pup and kitty that found their way to our family.
We currently have 91 dogs and 3 cats between our Adoption Center and Intensive Care Unit in another building on the property.
We administer vaccines and dewormer, give IV fluids and medications, implant microchips, and perform ultrasounds on expecting mothers.
We rely solely on donations from the public and fundraising.
We never know what each day holds-- we take in the abused, neglected, and hopeless.
Everyday care for this many lives is very expensive. Just the food and medications each month is nearly $4,000.
We also get in severely injured cases (amputations, enuculations, orthopedic reconstructions, heartworm positive treatments, and more). Those are the ones that need us the most, but also put a strain on the funding.
Overhead costs also include transportation to and from the spay clinic 80 miles away, electricity for four air conditioners and two washers and dryers running endless loads of laundry.
We desperately need donations to continue these efforts.
Each and every animal that finds their way to us, deserves this second chance.
As an independent Adoption Center (shelter), we receive ZERO government funding.
This week alone, we took in a pregnant mamadog and a stray running with her, two dumped starved puppies, a senior bonded pair that lost everything they knew, two chihuahuas from an unexpected litter, an emaciated hunting dog that didn't make his owner proud, and a partially blind shihtzu that had to have her eye removed with us.
To continue this care, WE DESPERATELY NEED DONATIONS!!!!!!
PLEASE give what you can!
