More than a One Day Seminar, less than a 10 year Journey to Blackbelt.

The plan is to build a Women's Self-Defense Program that provides retainable practice and also an outlet to discover physical and mental limitations...than surpass them.

I am in need of funding for startup cost for equipment such as mats, training bags, focus mitts, protective gear and other expenses.  Money will also be used for marketing and staffing events.  My goal is to raise enough by the end of year.

Who I am:
My name is Tina.  I've been training in martial arts for the past 10 years.  I research styles with the main focus of self-defense and found Jeet Kune Do to be the best as a simple and direct art for self-defense application.  I was lucky to find Dragon Family Martial Arts who's core training is truly self-defense.  One school provided JKD, Filipino Martial Arts and Wing Chun.  It's amazing.

But, I don't want my fellow women to spend minimum 5 years training in martial arts to have the skills to stop a crime.  I want you to be prepared to fight back as soon as possible.  I was very dissatisfied by one day seminars.  Most are promotions to get students into traditional training and can build a false security.  Any textbook will tell you that it takes practice to learn anything new.  You have to get repetition.  One day seminars don't cut it.

My dream is to provide training that prepares women for real world scenarios, the stuff missing from traditional martial arts training and self-defense books written by men based on their experiences of war fights.  The scenarios we face are different and we have more psychological and social barriers to pass.   Boys are taught to 'play' fight young while girls are discouraged.  Social grooming doesn't make us weak but is suppressed our instincts of danger which can blind us from dangerous situations and people.  I want to teach women how to prevent, assess danger and react accordingly.  To that I have a plan.  Will you help me?

Stage 1 Training:  8 week Self-Defense Program.  During the first stage, hands on training begins which requires some gear for partner training and staff members.  They include protective gloves, elbow pads and focus mitts.   Full body self-defense suits allows students to attack without fear of hurting instructors.  There are also some really great advancements in self-defense and grappling dummies.  Special training includes weapons, pepper spray and stun gun modules.  We would like to provide whatever gear we can for the students to prevent financial burden.  Stage one is all about getting everyone educated on self-defense techniques that work for them.

Stage 2 Training:  FocusMaster Fitness.  We've reached the point where we find our health, flexibility and mobility is limited based on how well a self-defense technique worked for them.  Sometimes I have women who don't want to practice from the floor because their weight makes it difficult to get up.  Others may have joint issues, they can't raise their arm, or bend their knees.  Having limitations makes a self-defense class even more intimidating.  I want to battle that with technique driven fitness classes.  Here, we can focus on improving their skills in strength, flexibility, mobility and balance to improve performance.  It's also can become a long term habit, improving health.  If you haven’t heard of FocusMaster, it's a step up from Title Boxing allowing better execution of kicks, punches, elbows and combinations improving accuracy.  Money will go towards purchasing equipment these workout stations.  The equipment allows quick class startup where students don't have to be trained to hold mitts for partners.  Anyone can start at their level.  Stage 2 provides conditioning to survive and I hope for it to be a long term activity for permanent health changes.

This means so much to me because I don't want women to have false security in one day seminars or from traditional martial arts training.   Classes don't start until I can purchase some of the essential gear.

I want to thank all the ladies who encourged me to reach for my dream, who came to my startup classes and inspired my cirriclium.  I hope to spend the rest of my life educating women to fight back and passing it forward.
