We freely and constantly praise the people behind the NHS, for their almost superhuman commitment to keep us thriving and stop the entire system from collapsing. However, let us not forget they are still people like us. They have mental and emotional limits just like us.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, NHS staff are committed to covering a grueling and unprecedented number of working hours (there are 1.3 million NHS carers looking after a population of 67 million). Add to that the emotional strain of having to endure the loss of so many patients under their care. Plus, let’s not forget, they are acutely aware of the fact that they are also constantly at risk of being exposed to a deadly virus. It is unthinkable to deny the toll this will have on a person’s mental well-being, even for a superhuman member of the NHS.
Our aim is to help to coordinate more than 3,700 (and rising) mental health and wellbeing specialists who are freely giving their time to support as many of our NHS heroes as possible.
We now just need a way to efficiently and safely connect thousands of volunteers with those working on the frontline. We need your help to put all the systems in place to give our brave NHS frontline staff a lifeline in such challenging times.
Show your support with a fiver or more, and please share your act of support with #HighFiveOurCarers on social media (every bit helps).
