Simeon’s Funeral Expenses
Donation protected
About two years ago, I created a GoFundMe page for Simeon Nyandwi, an incredible employee who worked for me at Wheaton College. Below is the summary of his story:
After fleeing war in Burundi and living for years in a refugee camp in Tanzania, Pastor Simeon Nyandwi arrived in Wheaton, IL in October, 2007 as a single father with his two children, Lucy and Abel. World Relief immediately connected him with a local church and a job washing pots and pans in the dining hall at Wheaton College, operated by Bon Appetit.
Fast forward 12 years—Pastor Simeon turned 70 years old, is faithfully involved in his local church and says that the joy of his life is serving the students of Wheaton College by still washing the pots and pans every day. He loves that it keeps him active, involved with a community of co-workers and, of course, provides a steady paycheck to pay for his studio apartment.
Unfortunately, Simeon was diagnosed in January, 2020 with lung cancer. While he undergoes treatment, he is unable to work and insurance covers most of his medical bills. While friends help him with food and other necessities, he needs $450/month for his subsidized rent and has accumulated $3,500 in unpaid medical bills.
We raised over $3,500 to help Simeon on the above campaign and he was amazed, humbled, and blessed by the generosity of the many who donated.
Fast forward to today, in early November, Simeon came to Wheaton College to visit his work family. His incredible spirit, high energy and faith as it always was on full display.
Unfortunately, on December 24th, Simeon passed away and although we are saddened by his passing, we rejoice that he is free of pain and with his savior. His daughter Lucy wants to provide her father with a proper funeral but does not have the money to do so. If you are able, I know it would be such a blessing if you could contribute any amount towards these expenses. If you can’t, please pray for his family as they go through this difficult time.
