Zeus

Zeus is a beautiful 8 month old German Shepherd who has a kind and wonderful spirit. He was surrendered to me by someone who said he was extremely aggressive and feared for her safety. When he came to me he was extremely underweight and suffered from excessive muscle atrophy due to being crated for extended periods of time. Since I have had him, he has not shown an ounce of aggression, however, he has shown very voidable signs of being severely abused. He did not know how to play or what a toy was. Since he was given his first ball by my daughter, he now brings it wherever he goes and wants to show it to everyone he meets. I have only had Zeus a short time, yet he has shown  such love and kindness to my family and current dogs in my home. Although adding another dog was not in our plans, it is in my nature to rescue and rehabilitate  animals taken from the worst of situations, because they deserve happiness and the expense of love in their lives.
Zeus was left in a cage that was too small for him for extended periods of time, if not indefinitely. He was beat with a broom and suffered from vision, hearing loss and seizures. The extent of his neurological damage is unknown to us at this point. Because of the severity of his abuse, he will need reconstruction surgery on both knees (they are twisted in and he is barely able to walk) in addition to his hips. He will need to see a neurologist to evaluate the extent of brain damage he suffers and how to manage his seizures and other issues resulting from repetitive blunt force trauma to the head. Unfortunately, the severity of his issues are beyond my financial means. The appointments at specialists and numerous surgeries involved to assist Zeus in living as close to a normal life as possible is going to cost upwards of $10,000 - $15,000. Please help to give this loving boy the life he deserves. Any donation large or small would be greatly appreciated by Zeus’s new family.
