Hello, my name is Rachel Deroche, a U.S veteran from Maine, and I'm fundraising for my dear friend Wesam Hani Abo Sabha who is from Gaza.
Note from Rachel
Wesam was thankfully able to evacuate to Egypt with her husband and son due to urgent medical needs. However, Wesam’s parents, sister, two brothers, and their children remain trapped in Gaza, facing unimaginable hardships.
Wesam started her GoFundMe several months ago, but despite her efforts, it has struggled to gain traction. Due to religious restrictions, Wesam is unable to show herself on camera, making it difficult to reach a broader audience. I met Wesam through my friend Lena, who went to university with her, and through this connection, I’ve come to learn about the devastating circumstances Wesam and her family are facing.
This campaign is now focused on two critical needs: supporting Wesam’s family who are still in Gaza and assisting Wesam while she is evacuated in Egypt. The situation in Gaza is dire, and the cost of basic necessities is soaring. Wesam’s family needs immediate support to survive and, hopefully, to evacuate to safety.
I urge you to get to know Wesam through her Instagram. While you may not see her face, you can connect with her on Facebook, which she is happy to provide upon request. Through her social media, you can learn more about her story and see the reality of life for Palestinians like Wesam who desperately need our help.
Your donation will make a world of difference in providing safety, stability, and hope for Wesam and her loved ones. Please consider contributing and sharing this campaign with others who may be willing to help.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
Wesam would like to share her story with you in her own words.
A Message from Wesam:
Hello, my name is Wesam Hani Abo Sabha, a 25-year-old physical therapist. I am married and have a young son named Ghaith. Our lives were rooted in Gaza, but the recent war has turned everything we built into rubble.

We worked tirelessly to build our home and create a future full of hope and stability. I dreamed of providing a simple, happy life for my family, where Ghaith could grow up safe and have opportunities for a bright future. However, the war destroyed not only our home but also the job I relied on and the dreams we cherished.

After much hardship, we have managed to evacuate to Egypt, but the challenges are far from over. Now, we need to support our family back in Gaza so they can also evacuate to safety. Additionally, we need funds to rebuild our home in Gaza and to sustain our lives here in Egypt as we start from scratch with nothing but our resilience and hope.

The universities in Gaza have been destroyed, making it difficult to obtain certification for degrees. This adds another layer of challenge as we try to rebuild our lives and careers.
Why Your Help is Crucial:
The recent conflict in Gaza has left countless families like Wesam’s without homes, jobs, or any means to secure their future. Wesam, her husband, and their young son Ghaith are now faced with the monumental task of rebuilding their lives from nothing. Your support can provide them with the resources they desperately need to start over. Wesam is also campaigning for her parents, sister, two brothers and their family, who have yet to evacuate from Gaza.

Travel costs from Gaza to Egypt(for remaining family members) :
- Crossing Egyptian borders: you have to pay (5,000-8,000$) for every Adult in the family and 2,500$ each for children
So, (2×8000$) =16,000$ , Considering current evacuation fees and coordination expenses at the Egyptian border
- Passport fees: 800$ totally (100$/person for 8 family members)
- GoFundMe Fee: 2,000$ (Approximately 2.9%+0.30$ for each donation, covering the platform’s fee).
- And some extra living costs for couple of months (Including apartment rent, clothes , food , etc) : 10,000$.
The total is approximately : 20,000$
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings Wesam and her family one step closer to reuniting, safety and stability. Together, we can make a profound difference in their lives.
Additionally:
Wesam has appointed me as a beneficiary for this campaign because of the restrictions imposed by GoFundMe. Wesam cannot withdraw money while she is in Gaza, so I will withdraw the money and send it to her securely through direct bank transfer.
