UPDATE: Home Modifications Needed to Bring TJ Home

I wanted to share an important update on how funds are being used as my dad, TJ, continues his recovery.

TJ remains in a rehabilitation hospital in Houston and is working incredibly hard every day in therapy. Trying to plan for the next steps of his care, we’ve learned that significant home modifications are necessary before he can safely return home to San Antonio.

My parents home is two stories. While luckily, there is a bedroom and bathroom downstairs, it is not currently wheelchair accessible or ADA-compliant. In order for TJ to come home, we must renovate the downstairs living space to ensure it is safe, accessible, and supportive of his medical needs.

Upcoming needs include:
• ADA-compliant bathroom renovations
• Wheelchair-accessible bedroom and living space modifications
• Doorway widening and accessibility adjustments
• Ongoing travel expenses between Houston and San Antonio
• Additional care-related needs as they come

If you have experience or knowledge related to veteran assistance programs, disability resources, or home modification grants, we would be deeply grateful for ANY guidance.

Thank you again for the continued support, prayers, and generosity. Every share, message, and donation helps bring my dad one step closer to coming home.

On December 12th, my dad, TJ, was injured in a hit and run car accident in Shreveport, Louisiana, resulting in a major spinal cord injury. While this has been a life altering event, spirits remain high. We are grateful that his spinal cord is intact, and TJ is now on the road to recovery. He received critical care from the incredible ICU team at LSU Emergency Medicine and is continuing treatment and rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas. I have created this GoFundMe to help support my parents through this sudden and significant change in their lives, as their future has been permanently altered. Funds will go toward medical expenses, long-term care, and day to day support during this transition. Closer to if/when the time comes that my dad gets to return home to San Antonio, I would like to create a MealTrain to support that. Though the road to recovery is long, any prayers, positive manifestations, and support of any kind is deeply appreciated.
