This past Friday, our beloved cat Nala was rushed to the emergency hospital after an ibuprofen poisoning accident. It was a terrifying 48 hours of not knowing if her little body would be strong enough to fight the high dose, as Ibuprofen is dangerously poisonous to cats and can result in serious stomach ulcers and permanent kidney damage; if not treated and mitigated, it would cause seizures that may result in death.
Nala is more than a pet; she's our family, our joy, our comfort, our little light, and seeing her in pain broke us to pieces.
Nala is four years old, with a bubbly personality. She’s our girly girl, a little diva and she knows it; she loves to prance, purr, and ask for cuddles, especially when meeting someone new. Every night, without fail, she brings us her toy mouse, to proudly show off her catch before bed time. She’s there to greet us when we come home, she curls up close when we’re sad or stressed, and she fills our home with love and soft girly meows.
When Nala fell ill, we were both filled with fear that we might lose her, fear that we wouldn’t get to bring her home again. She was admitted to intensive care, where the medical team immediately began treatment to protect her from the dangerous effects. Thankfully, she is a fighter. At the hospital, after receiving 48 hours of continuous IV fluids, medication, close monitoring, and multiple rounds of labwork, she was finally discharged. We brought her home but Nala is not out the woods yet, as she will require several weeks of medication and close monitoring to ensure her full recovery.
We never expected to be in this situation — we’ve always done everything we could to give Nala and her brother Eli the healthiest, happiest life. But we weren’t prepared for an emergency like this, and we don’t have insurance to cover the steep cost of hospitalization and recovery treatments/medication.
We’re asking for help through this difficult time. Any amount you can give will go directly toward Nala’s hospitalization and continued treatment. Your support means the world to us.
We’re holding on to hope, and we’re so grateful for any kindness you can share. Thank you for helping us bring our baby girl safely home.
With love,
