On August 20th our sister Katie and her husband Louie experienced every parent’s worst nightmare- a call that their teenage son Nick was the victim of a serious car accident. His injuries were so severe that he was being airlifted for life-saving emergency surgery. Fear and uncertainty hung over the family as the life of our nephew was in the hands of God and the first responders and surgeons. The trauma team’s efforts succeeded in saving Nick who had suffered devastating injuries that would require nearly two weeks in an ICU unit. Our family is forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment Nick has received from his team of doctors, nurses, and surgeons.
The night of the accident, just two days before his 18th birthday, was a typical evening for Nick. He and two teammates were sharing the drive home from hockey practice as the summer before their senior year in high school was coming to a close. He had been selected to play for the Elmira Junior Soaring Eagles Hockey team (an elite hockey team), the sport he loves so much. He had worked tirelessly all summer both on and off the ice to get in the best shape of his life. Nick has always been an incredible kid. Along with his athletic talents and strong work ethic, he is a loving, kind and generous friend. He is passionate, laughs often, skates fast, plays hard and works hard! His big smile and friendly personality will light up any room. As we sat holding vigil in the hospital with Katie and Louie, so many stories were shared by Nick's friends and their parents about what a kind and caring person Nick is- how he goes out of his way to be a good friend and teammate. So often he thinks of others before himself.
We have been uplifted by the outpouring of love and support from our family and friends and the Notre Dame High School community. We have heard from several hockey players across the country sending their support and prayers for their fellow player. The constant prayers for Nick have provided a great sense of hope and comfort to his parents Louie and Katie during this frightening and trying time. Since the accident, they have never left his side.
Our hopes and prayers for Nick are that he makes a full recovery from this tragic accident, but the reality is that he has a long road ahead of him. Inpatient rehabilitation and additional surgeries are needed. So many have asked how to help, so we’ve created this go fund me account to aid the Viselli family with the cost of providing medical care, rehabilitation and to cover their expenses while they are away from work to be by Nick’s side. It has been heartbreaking for all of us to watch Nick, his parents and his little sister go through this. We have been eager to help in any way. Easing their financial burden will give Katie and Louie the peace of mind they need to focus solely on their precious son's recovery.
Fight hard Nick!! WE ALL BELIEVE IN YOU!! You got this!
