My brother, Brian, is preparing to donate a kidney to his brother-in-law, Chon, in California. Chon is a great friend of mine and is married to my wife’s best friend, Barbara, which makes this life-saving gift even more meaningful for all of us.

Kidney donor matches between unrelated family members are rare — only about 1 in 15 — so the fact that Brian and Chon are a match feels nothing short of a miracle. Brian is the type of guy who would give away his second kidney if someone needed it, and Chon would be first in line if Brian was in need.

Brian and his family live in New Jersey and will need to travel to California for surgery and recovery, staying near the hospital for about three weeks.
