Cambodia is Calling

Hey everyone!

If you do not know me my name is Reece Guiton and I was born and raised in Redding, California. The Lord Jesus got ahold of me early in life and I have been serving Him ever since. I remember trying to evangelize at age 8 to my classmates. I made a Jewish boy cry once [Sorry Danny!]. Through High School I went to a youth group and learned a ton about God, His son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and I knew that I wanted to give every single day of my life to serve the Kingdom of God.

I went to Simpson University and received a BA in Youth Ministry. While there the Holy Spirit revealed to me that I would spend 2 years in youth ministry, 2 years in pastoral ministry, then 2 years overseas. Shortly after receiving this word, I got a job in a youth ministry where I served for 2 years. After that the Lord called me to pastor Light House Church, and I have held that position for just over 2 years now.

Halfway through my time in pastoral ministry, I began to seek the Lord about where He would send me, and He was not silent! He began to bombard me with, "Cambodia! Cambodia! Cambodia!!!" which was odd because I didn't know a single thing about Cambodia. And God was faithful to provide people in front of me who had connections to ministries and organizations in Cambodia!

In February, I took a trip to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, the two main locations for tourism in Cambodia, and something incredible happened; my heart came alive! I love Cambodia and the Khmer people.

So in faith to the 2-2-2 year calling and the leading of the Holy Spirit, I am planning on heading there for at least two years. I want to work in Social Justice, which is what the Bible talks about when the prophets speak of defending the orphans, pleading the cases for the widows, and setting captives free. Cambodia is very heavily abused in areas of sexual exploitation and other forms of human trafficking. My heart is to see it end in Jesus' name! I am going to partner with an organization that is already there, called the Hard Places Community, and will be working to bring education and prevention to kids in at-risk areas, and care for kids who have already been victims. With your help, the organization and myself will have better resources to prevent even more, and help even more who have been abused.

The time is soon approaching for me to go, but there is one thing I forgot to do! I forgot to give my friends and family an opportunity to sow into my journey. God has given me hopes and dreams for various levels of funding so I will break it down like this.

$8000: My personal living expenses over the next two years and costs typically associated with ministry. This would be the basics: food, drinking water, housing and utilities, etc.

$15,000: In addition to the above needs, if we can raise $15,000 or more I would love to be able to bless ministries that are already in place so they also may continue to be funded.

$40,000: I believe that the Lord has given me a plan to get to the root of the exploitation instead of just putting a band-aid on the problem. The Johns. These are the men who travel from all over the world to Cambodia for the purpose of exploiting the Khmer people. If we can raise up to $40,000 together, I'd like to begin a ministry to the Johns. The sex-trade is much like any economic trade and is therefore driven by demand. As long as there are men willing to pay the money, this injustice will persist. However, if these men encounter the radical love of Jesus and He cleanses them of their sin, then there is hope for a lasting solution. The details of this ministry should probably not be disclosed at this point, but the funds would go towards rent, materials, and even staff members.

1Timothy 1:15 "It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all."

I am going to be heading out to Cambodia very soon, but anyone who desires to sew into my service can do so any time from now onward.

Every dollar counts! If you can give $0.02, or $2,000, I am so very grateful! It is amazing just to know that there are people who stand behind me and Jesus' heart for the broken, so every person who donates is more than just money, you are a partner with me in everything I am going to encounter. It would really mean a lot to me.

I don't want to be manipulative, but I do want to be honest that there really are children being abused constantly. If even just one child is kept safe, there is no price-tag for the value of a human life.

Last but not least I want to change the way we think about giving financially to send the workers out into the harvest. Many people are discribing this journey as an adventure, but I prefer to think of it as a QUEST. To be on a quest implies that there is something to be done, with a grand purpose rooted in good and evil. What I am entering into is darkest night, while at the same time I know that the Bible calls me a Son of Light. this is the real deal.

And I cannot do it alone.

I need the help of people such as yourself in everything I do. And you will be with me! This is not just giving me money and sending me off. Because I could only be there by your help, it is as if you are actually there THROUGH me. In a sense, everything I do will only be possible because of those who support, so your funding directly makes an impact in the lives of everyone I get to encounter.  It is a team effort.

Thanks to everyone who gives or prays! May our heavenly Father bless you abundantly in our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.
