TIYUMBA: Education for kids in Ghana
Donation protected
In spring 2024, after 7 years, I've made the heartfelt decision to close the TIYUMBA project. It's been a journey filled with passion and dedication. However, the loss of our dear friend and founder, Nestor, two years ago, left an irreplaceable void. This crowdfunding page remains as a tribute to his vision and our collective efforts. If you have insights or ideas to revive the project, please reach out.
Thank you so much for standing by TIYUMBA!

"Education is a universal right, not a privilege for few"
My friend Nestor is currently working on a community schooling project and needs learning materials to support kids in rural areas in northern Ghana.
Nestor and his friends created a Facebook page to let more people know about what they do. (https://www.facebook.com/Danaakgh/)

It started in June 2017 with only a few students. The number of students kept increasing since then (photo taken in October 2017)

What it will be used for
beginners reading/writing books, pencils/colored pencils, and any other stuff that can help the kids learn.

about Nestor
I met Nestor in 2016 when I visited Ghana for the first time to work on the humane project. We empowered women from a local village and created a water treatment center in a rural area in northern Ghana where there was no access to clean water. The water center we built is still run to this date by the local women entrepreneurs whom we worked with. I worked on this project with a group of four, who are from the US, and Nestor was a translator for my group. He is from northern Ghana, and he helped us succeed in this project as well as learn their culture.

I know Nestor as a really motivated and hardworking man. He loves kids, and I remember he really took care of kids in the village that we worked on and was popular among them, too. So I thought it was very cool that he started something like this.

He studied medicine in Ghana, but because of government problems, he could not get a job. However, that does not stop him from helping people! That is why he was a translator volunteer for us, and now he has started this project with his friends.
I hope this will become a way to spread his work to more people, raise awareness of the situation in Ghana, and, most importantly, provide education to those charming kids in Northern Ghana who will not otherwise have a chance to have one.
The following are the pictures from the project my group and Nestor did together with local people in the village.
