At 2am on September 8th Rena woke to the sound of a ding on her phone, thinking it could be one of her kids, she decided to check it. It is only by God's grace that she heard that ding, because it was an emergency message saying they had 10 min to evacuate their home, they were in imminent danger from the Beachie Creek Fire. They scrambled around the house trying to grab important belongings, but how do you look around a house you love, filled with memories and heirlooms, and decide what is worthy? In the end they were only able to load up their horse through the thick black smoke and escape down their driveway with fire already licking at their heels. And then they waited. And prayed. And waited some more, hoping to hear any news.
On September 10th Donnie & Rena Titus were done waiting, they hiked up a mountain through thick smoke to see if their beautiful home was still standing. They feared the worst, but nothing could prepare them for this view. Rena sank to her knees as she saw the horrific sight of their dream retirement home, nothing left but burnt metal & ashes. If you know Donnie and Rena, you know that this is not the first home they've lost to a natural disaster. In the Oregon flood of '96 they lost their family home in Mist, OR where they were raising their 4 children. It's unimaginable that this could be happening again. Donnie is retired from a lifetime of dedicated work for Columbia County and Rena right behind him with 30+ years in the school system.
They knew this was the home they were dreaming of the moment they laid eyes on it. It was closer to their two children who live in the state, and a place to create new memories with all those gorgeous grandchildren. This was supposed to be it. They are heartbroken, as are all of us witnessing this family we love experience such loss. Again. These two high school sweethearts do not give up though. They have each other, their amazing family, & their trust in God. They know He will carry them through as they pick up the pieces.
This fundraiser is being organized by a group of friends that grew up with their children, they were like second parents to us growing up (Lord help them haha!) We love this family so much and although they don't know were doing this yet, we pray this blesses them in their time of need. They are the kind of people who will do anything to help their community, and it's our turn to give back.
(Funds will be used for temporary housing, rebuilding, & basic needs such as food, toiletries, and clothes; as they had to flee with nothing but the clothes on their back.)
Thank you for your support, it's times like these that we see God's beauty in humanity. God bless you!
**Bridget Abraham is handling the financials for Donnie & Rena as it is one less thing they need to worry about during this stressful time. She is their daughter & resides in Nebraska. . All funds will be used to help them pay for living expenses, get their camping trailer set up to reside in while waiting to rebuild, and replace lost valuables. Bridget will be the beneficiary for this purpose solely, funds will still 100% go to the Titus family. Any questions be directed towards her! Thank you!**
