Querida comunidad: Mi nombre es Tito Mitjans Alayón, soy un migrante afrocubano residiendo en San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México, transmasculino no binario, fantásticamente gordo y amante de las epistemologias feministas negras cuirs. También soy activista transfeminista, antirracista. Durante mis cinco años de experiencia migrante negra en Mexico he enfocado mi trabajo en evidenciar el racismo anti negro, las vidas negras migrantes en el Sur de México y el apartheid racial de la frontera. También estoy profundamente comprometido en fortalecer las comunidades disidentes locales y diaspóricas de las cuales soy parte.
Migrar de paisaje, de territorio y de géneros ha sido una experiencia de mucha resiliencia. Tanta resiliencia llega a ser muy agotadora, por ello me acerco a ustedes para que me apoyen en mi proceso de afirmación de género a través de una cirugía: la mastectomía para continuar torciendo el género blanco colonial y sentirme más libre y cómodo en mi cuerpo.
He vivido como una persona transmasculina alrededor de dos años y medio. Ha sido una de las experiencias más liberadoras que he vivido, sin embargo, habitando un cuerpo negro gordo masculino que ha sido asignado como mujer al nacer, específicamente en la frontera sur de Mexico es exponerse a un racismo generizado muy violento cada día. Más que saciar la ansiedad de congruencia de género para los ojos cis, esta operación para mi es fortalecer el proceso de hacer de mi cuerpo mi casa.
Los servicios de salud para la comunidad trans en México son un campo de lucha social. Algunos otros estados mexicanos también están modificando sus leyes para alcanzar el acceso a la salud al acompañamiento médico para las personas trans desde las instituciones estatales, sin embargo es muy limitado aún. Además es restrictivo para ciudadanos mexicanos, por lo que quienes somos migrantes no podemos acceder. Debido a ello he decidido recurrir a una institución privada, que colabora con el proyecto Impulso Trans, colectivo trans cuyo activismo se enfoca en el cuidado y la lucha legal de la comunidad trans en México.
El monto que necesito para realizar este proceso es de $100,000 pesos mexicanos, aproximadamente 5,000 dólares. Este dinero estará destinado a pagar la cirugía, los gastos de cuidados, traslado, estadía y recuperación post operatoria.
Les pido apoyo a quienes puedan y están en la disposición de cooperar económicamente, igualmente agradezco muchísimo a quienes puedan compartir el link entre sus contactos. Este es un esfuerzo colectivo y todo apoyo es un abrazo cálido para mi en este proceso. Dear community: My name is Tito Mitjans Alayón, an Afro-Cuban migrant residing in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México. I am a transmasculine, non-binary, fantastically fat person and a lover of Black feminist epistemologies as well as a transfeminist anti-racist activist. During these five years of experiencing life as a Black migrant in Mexico, I have focused my work on highlighting anti-Black racism, Black migrant lives in southern Mexico, and racial apartheid at the border. I am deeply committed to strengthening the local dissident and diasporic communities of which I form a part.
Migrating from landscape, territory and genders has been an experience requiring great resilience- a level of resilience which has become incredibly exhausting- which is part of why I am approaching you to support me in my gender affirmation process through surgery: top surgery, or a double mastectomy. This will allow me to further interrupt white colonial gender and its implications, and finally feel more free and comfortable in my body.
I’ve lived as a transmasculine person for about two and a half years and it has easily been one of the most liberating shifts of my life. However, inhabiting a fat, Black, masculine body that was assigned female at birth, particularly at the southern border of México, means exposing myself to extremely violent and gendered racism every day. Beyond evolving a greater gender congruence, this operation will strengthen and support the ongoing process of making my body my home.
Accessing health services for the trans community in Mexico is a significant struggle. While some Mexican states are modifying their laws to give trans people access to healthcare from state institutions, these options remain exceedingly limited. Further, these services are only available to Mexican citizens, so those of us who are migrants are excluded. Because of these multiple factors, I have decided to turn to a private institution, which collaborates with the Impulso Trans project, a trans collective whose activism focuses on advocacy, care and legal support for the trans community in Mexico. With their collaboration I will be able to have my surgery safely and at a lower cost than at other private clinics.
The amount I need to raise in order to carry out this process is $100,000 Mexican pesos, approximately $ 5,000 USD. This money will be used to pay for the surgery as well as the additional costs of medical care, transportation to and from the clinic and the various expenses associated with post-operative recovery.
So, I am asking for the support of those who can and are willing to cooperate financially and am also grateful to those who are able to share the link with their contacts. This is a collective effort and any and all support is a much needed warm hug for me in this vital yet complex process, one which will allow me to walk with firmer steps in this world and will reinforce both my gender identity and my inner power.
