Hi. I created this Go Fund Me Page for Tito Martinez, the father of some dear friends, Tony (Juan Martinez) and Jessica (Pellegrino) Martinez. Tito and Carmen are struggling greatly and need much help. I hope you will read their story and consider helping, no matter the amount.

On the evening of July 13, 2019, Tito had just celebrated his 60th birthday with a dinner party surrounded by friends and family. After the party was over, Tito went back to his son, Tony’s, house, where they noticed that he was acting strangely. When his son noticed that he couldn’t talk and his face had started drooping, he immediately called 911. Tito was rushed to Torrance Memorial where he was given TPA and emergency brain surgery. Once the tests had been completed, it was determined that Tito experienced a massive Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) Acute Ischemic stroke. His family assumed that since they caught it early, he’s relatively young, and he was able to get TPA and surgery immediately, that he would make a full (or close to full) recovery.
Unfortunately, almost 2 months later, Tito is still in the hospital and is suffering from severe aphasia (inability to talk, write, communicate) and right-side paralysis. Despite being treated by some of the best hospitals in the area, his progress has been slow going and doctors believe that this will be a lifelong struggle. He will have to re-learn how to walk, talk, write, etc. The road ahead will be long and challenging for everyone, as he will require 24/7 care.
Prior to his stroke, Tito worked as a truck driver and his income was sustaining his household. He was also the caretaker for his wife, who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis and was forced to retire from her profession as an Occupational Therapist. Since Tito had worked for his current company for less than a year and will not be able to return to work, he lost both his job and his insurance coverage. Now insurance is no longer covering his care, which he requires 24/7. His son, Tony’s, family is preparing their home to care for him, but with two-year-old twins and his wife just being diagnosed with thyroid cancer on 9/12/19, it is more than they can manage alone. Tito and his wife have already been forced to sell their home and their car, but are still struggling to make ends meet. Tito will need care for the foreseeable future, if not forever, which is extremely expensive. He will need physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical supplies, and ongoing caretaking. Tito is the kindest person, and has always gone out of his way to help others. He’s the type of person that would help you move, give you a ride in the middle of the night, or give you his last dollar if you needed it. Tito, Carmen, Jessica and Tony are all very giving people who have been dealt a hard blow. If you can help Tito and his medical expenses in any way, it would be so greatly appreciated.
