Tit-less : Preventing cancer, giving it less of a chance

Donation protected
Known as Sulema, Drykettle, and many other names, I am a nurse, content creator, solo parent of two little girls, an immigrant, and a generally semi-funny human who was diagnosed with a genetic mutation of gene PALB2 last year. It is in the same family as BRCA. These genes severely increase my chances of developing Breast and ovarian cancer throughout the years, the greatest risk is for breast cancer. Considering that both of my parents have died of terminal cancer, my father at 43 years old and mother at 51. The medical recommendation is the complete removal of my breasts, breast tissue, and glands and (Radical Mastectomy), and a reconstruction. I would like to give myself the best chances possible to stay around for my daughters, therefore after a year of considering what to do with this diagnosis I have decided to continue ahead with the preventative surgery. Thanks to preventative treatments like this surgery, and early detection programs I can take my risk of developing breast cancer to under 5%.

Though the initial surgery is covered by my insurance, there are many surrounding costs due to the support I will need to make sure that my children are cared for and that I am supported with daily living tasks after such a big operation.

My childhood friend J has agreed to come take care of me and the girls, understanding the importance of a surgery like this, I am incredibly grateful as she too has children.

I require financial support to pay for:

  • One round trip flight (Mexico to Berlin and return flight)
  • Weekly compensation for 6-8 weeks for my friend J to take care of me and the girls. ( She will be taking over my home life with the girls for the time I am in the hospital 6-10 days) which means cooking, cleaning, bathing the girls, taking on the mental load and organisation, school and kita drop offs and pick ups.
  • After the 6-10 days I will not be able to pick up my daughter for 6-8 weeks, or lift my arms, therefore I require J to stay with us during that time to continue to support us with the household.
  • A babysitter fund to occasionally relieve J
  • Special compression bras, pillows and garments post surgery.

I appreciate any support that can be given, even if it is as simple as sharing the link.
