My name is Kandi Rivera and my mother-in-law, Thaiz, who lives in Venezuela is currently battling gastric (stomach) cancer. I am desperate to help her be able to get the care and emergency surgery she is in dire need of immediately. Venezuela’s healthcare system is very different from what many of us are used to in the United States. Even basic cancer care often requires full payment upfront before tests, procedures, chemotherapy, or surgery can be done. Medications are frequently unavailable, and families are forced to search, pay privately, or go without critical treatment.

My mother-in-law does not have the financial means to cover these costs. She is not only fighting cancer herself — she is also the primary caregiver for her 91-year-old mother, who lost her leg and is bed/wheelchair bound making her fully dependent on her for around the clock daily care.

Despite her diagnosis, she continues to put others before herself, but the cost of care has become overwhelming.

My husband and I live in the United States, and we are doing everything we can to help from here — financially doing what we can, coordinating care, seeking options, and exploring medical treatment possibilities. However, the financial burden is far beyond what our family can carry alone and she’s in desperate need for surgery and treatment.

Funds raised will go toward:

• First and foremost - the emergency surgery they need to perform but won’t until they receive payment.

• Cancer treatment and medications

• Hospital and procedure fees that must be paid upfront

• Basic caregiving support so she can focus on treatment

My husband is not one to ask for help, and he does so much for me and for his family, so this request is from me made with with a humble heart and SO much gratitude. Hola a todos ❤️ Mi nombre es Kandi Rivera y mi suegra, Thaiz, quien vive en Venezuela, actualmente está luchando contra un cáncer gástrico (de estómago). Estoy desesperada por ayudarla a que pueda recibir la atención médica y la cirugía de emergencia que necesita con urgencia. El sistema de salud en Venezuela es muy diferente a lo que muchos estamos acostumbrados en los Estados Unidos. Incluso la atención básica para el cáncer suele requerir el pago total por adelantado antes de que se puedan realizar exámenes, procedimientos, quimioterapia o cirugías. Los medicamentos con frecuencia no están disponibles, y las familias se ven obligadas a buscarlos por su cuenta, pagar de manera privada o, en el peor de los casos, quedarse sin tratamientos críticos. Mi suegra no cuenta con los recursos financieros para cubrir estos costos. No solo está luchando contra el cáncer — también es la cuidadora principal de su madre de 91 años, quien perdió una pierna y se encuentra en cama o en silla de ruedas, dependiendo completamente de ella para su cuidado diario las 24 horas del día. A pesar de su diagnóstico, ella sigue poniendo a los demás antes que a sí misma, pero el costo de la atención médica se ha vuelto abrumador. Mi esposo y yo vivimos en los Estados Unidos y estamos haciendo todo lo posible para ayudar desde aquí — aportando económicamente en lo que podemos, coordinando atención médica, buscando opciones y explorando posibilidades de tratamiento. Sin embargo, la carga financiera es mucho mayor de lo que nuestra familia puede asumir sola, y ella necesita desesperadamente cirugía y tratamiento. Los fondos recaudados se destinarán a: • Primero y más importante: la cirugía de emergencia que necesitan realizarle, pero que no llevarán a cabo hasta recibir el pago. • Tratamiento contra el cáncer y medicamentos. • Costos hospitalarios y de procedimientos que deben pagarse por adelantado. • Apoyo básico para el cuidado, para que ella pueda enfocarse en su tratamiento. Mi esposo no es de los que piden ayuda, y hace tanto por mí y por su familia, que esta petición viene de mí, hecha con un corazón humilde y con muchísima gratitud.
