DeChant Art Consulting, LLC and Titans of Space, LLC with the support of PBS IdeaStream, Great Lakes Science Center Museum, Tri C Film Department, WKYC and CWRU Film Society and in close collaboration with retired NASA Glenn (formally, Lewis) Research Space Center administrators, engineers, and scientists, have developed a groundbreaking educational project, “Titans of Space.”

Titans of Space encompasses a documentary film and miniseries with proposed Augmented Reality to highlight the unique engineering contributions Cleveland’s NASA Center made to international space explorations, science and technology, economic development, and education. This nationally and internationally significant broadcast and livestream initiative is planned to include extensive educational and promotional interactive programming reaching out to diverse audiences in Greater Cleveland and nationwide. Its intent is to answer the question “ What is Engineering” with technical finesse laced with the humor of situations. Our company, Titans of Space, LLC, is seeking support from sponsors to enable the filming and the educational program development and outreach.

Logline
Few historical events exemplify the exhilaration of the profession of Engineering than the Apollo Moon landings. But what of the largely unknown Apollo stories, stories of all-too human aerospace engineers from an improbable location --- a NASA research center in Cleveland Ohio?

The story begins with a brilliant rocket engineer from post war Germany, Wernher von Braun, and a self assured genius engineer from little known Terre Haute, Indiana, Dr Abe Silverstein, two technical Titans, that destiny somehow brought together… and that destiny took them to the Moon and Beyond!

Key objectives of the Titans of Space are to inspire fascination and understanding of: What is Engineering?
It is a question rarely asked or even contemplated by the public, educators, the Media, or Hollywood. Yet so much of the wealth, progress, and our quality of life’s foundation rests on Engineering. Simply put, Engineering is “applied science”. Without it, there would be no buildings, no chemicals for medicine, no electricity to power all our machines, no machines at all for that matter. In simplest terms, we would not be far from cave dwellers and manual food foragers. Engineering is a highly refined, mathematical & science directed field which used to be referred to as “inventors” in the distant past.
One of the greatest modern catalysts for engineering in the latter half of the 20th century has been the space program. Without the need to solve difficult problems, well beyond the state of the art which is endemic of manned spaceflight, many technological achievements would have been delayed ...possibly for centuries!

1. Demonstrate the richness and depth of the science and technology from the early 20th century through today in the Northeast Ohio region as reflected by the groundbreaking developments and historic accomplishments at NASA Center i.e., Man's Mission to Land on the Moon) and numerous other genius engineering space and aerospace) inventions.
2. Educate children, preteens and 20 year olds by exposing them to the excitement of discovery involved in Engineering and inspiring them to pursue Engineering related careers.
3. Showcase regional talent by utilizing Cleveland film commission, local scriptwriting, music, art, and film production capabilities.
3. The Cleveland community is not aware of the heroic and proud history of the Engineering genius of the NASA Center in Cleveland.
4. Develop inspiring educational and outreach programming …
(…broadcast, stream and exhibit potentially through Case Western Reserve University Film Society, the Great Lakes Science Center, WVIZ and IdeaStream PBS. We are working with all of them in the developing stage.

Targeted Audience includes but not limited to: Preteen - 20’s: to encourage them to pursue a career in Engineering! To get young students excited about careers in science and aeronautics, also inspiring the underserved urban Cleveland communities.

Long-Term Benefits
1. Encourage STEM in NE Ohio, Cleveland, and the nation!...under-resourced and under- privileged urban communities via building a Bridge to the Future by
Add and keep highly educated STEM students in the regional workforce
Bring interest in Engineering to children, teenagers and your adults
Extol the Technical Expertise of NASA nationally
Economic Development for the region
2. Preservation of regionally impactful and nationally significant Aerospace history.

Short-Term Benefits
Creating sustainable educational programs that ensure increase in the number of CMSD students going to colleges to pursue careers in Science and Engineering.

Background to Date
Ideastream: PBS Mark Rosenberger has met twice and expressed an interest in broadcasting the documentary episodes first.
WVIZ : Adam Miller : has meet three times to discuss broadcasting regionally and proposed adding impact with Betsy Kling's input.
Great Lakes Science Center: Scott Volmer has an interest in using Titans of Space Engineering episodes simplified for hands on activities for children- teen. Possible development of Augmented Reality in Engineering episodes for theatre. Artifacts/ gift shop items could be developed for GLSC use and further sales/ funding.
Case Western Reserve University : Film Society : Kristina Collins would like to Premiere first Documentary episode in their theatre.
