In January of this year, a good samaritan (Sam Smith) found this boy roaming the streets in frigid temperatures and took him home. Sam put a post on Facebook asking if anyone would be interested in giving him a good home and my son (Joe Garcia) stepped up and did just that! Titan was immediately taken for vet care including heart worm test and vaccinations along with a much needed bath and nail trim. At the time of his first vet visit he weighed approximately 35lbs and rapidly started gaining weight (about 3-5lbs per week) and is now up to 76lbs! Shortly after Titan started gaining weight, Joe noticed he was limping and favoring his left front leg. He waited a few days and took him back to the vet had an xray done and found out he has OCD - Osteochondrontitis Dissecans in his left shoulder. This is a serious condition that affects a dog's joints when an abnormal development of cartilage appears on the end of a bone in a dog's joint. Large breeds are more prone to OCD and contributing factors include genetics, trauma to a joint, and rapid growth. Treatment requires surgery and we met with a vet/surgeon last week who estimates this procedure will cost approximately $4000. Titan will be on medication and will need some after care funds for therapy and on-going vet visits. We don't know much about Titan's life before we met him and it is possible he suffered trauma while roaming the streets on his own for months, but, his growth was rapid the first few months which could attribute to his injury. He was emaciated when he was found and with good food, controlled feedings and proper nutrition he has doubled his weight! We are asking for your help, even if just a little contribution, you will help this boy live the life he deserves!
