The drive behind this campaign is to help our Tita Lisa, Elisa Pang, with her current medical and rehabilitation expenses. We love her so much and what had happened to her breaks our hearts, more so that we couldn’t be there right away as we live on opposite ends of the country. We are the only family she has in the U.S. and we vow to face this obstacle together.
Tita Lisa is a big part of our lives, as we see her as our third parent. She had lived with us in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, watching over and taking care of us, especially at times when our parents were at work. She was also active with our school lives; taking us to school, chaperoning field trips (a lot of times as a volunteer driver), helping out in the classrooms, even bringing special lunches for us and our friends during elementary school. She was our aunt, but her care also spread out to our friends and classmates. All this while she had her own life and full-time job.
Once we were a little older, her effort to help others didn’t stop. She continued to assist parents whenever they needed a helping hand. She was someone that people could really lean on and trust with the most precious parts of their lives, their children. After watching another child grow in her care, she took the plunge about four years ago to move her life to New York to become a full-time nanny to a young couple with a toddler.
On the morning of Tuesday, January 6, 2015, she collapsed on the sidewalk in front of a post office while running errands. Thank God and bless the person that took the initiative to call 911 after witnessing this. She was then rushed to the nearby North Shore Lennox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side of New York City.
Our mom, Marita, is her only sibling here in the U.S. The moment she got the call from the hospital, we booked her a plane ticket as soon as possible, taking her from California to New York to be with her baby sister.
It was discovered that Tita Lisa had a blood clot in the back of her head and needed emergency surgery to remove it and relieve the pressure on her brain. Additional surgery was done to prevent infections and pneumonia. After numerous surgeries and procedures she is said to be in stable condition. Due to the stroke, her left side is disabled and she is also prone to temporary fevers. On the bright side, she shows little bits of improvement day by day like responding through blinks of the eye or moving her right arm or right foot. (I was brought to tears when she responded to hearing my voice on speaker phone. -Junella) She has been in the ICU for a week now, and it looks like she needs to be there for a bit longer. Once she is more stable and functional enough to be sent for further rehab, she will have to be relocated to a rehabilitation facility.
If you have ever met her, you would know how much of a sweet and caring person she is. You would also know that she puts God first and those around her as priorities over herself. In the case that you haven’t met her, you have probably met our mom and you’d know how much love our mom has for her sister.
She has always been one to help others, now she is in need. We believe that God will help us as a family get through this, but we also know that we can’t do this on our own. So we ask to keep her in your prayers and if you have the capability, to donate. Any amount, large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Tristan and Junella, nephew and niece of Elisa Pang
