My child worked hard to finish college in three years and all she got for it was... cancer??!

The good(ish) news is that it's classical Hodgkin lymphoma, nodular sclerosis type, which YouTube star Hank Green calls "the Cadillac of cancers" because it is one of the few types of cancer that is considered curable (not remission, cured).

The bad news (I mean, aside from having cancer) is that she had plans. But in keeping with her fiercely resilient character, she is determined not to let this nonsense scupper those plans, which include moving to Madison to work and network and investigate opportunities for further academic study or research; a working gap year of sorts.

She still plans to go, because fuck cancer. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is home to Wisconsin's one NCI cancer hospital, and we hope to seamlessly transfer her care and treatment there in the near future.

We do not need help with medical expenses!

But since some of you have asked if and how you can help, the only practical thing she might conceivably need is help with living expenses. She signed a lease on an apartment with the expectation that she'd be working, but unfortunately, she will not, in fact, be working. The management company has been appallingly unsympathetic to her situation, going so far as to point out that the lease is still binding in the event of ill health. We could of course just not show up and not pay them, but that is obviously not without consequence and she does still plan to move, so the plan for now is to move to Madison anyway and make the best of it because fuck cancer is why.

Also, if you know anyone in Madison with a vacant accessory apartment or in need of a house/pet sitter, I expect I'll be spending a fair amount of time there in September and October.

We're still processing, but doing as well as can be expected. Lily is a fighter, and we have every expectation of a full cure. We'll be setting up a dashboard for sharing info and receiving messages, but until then you can reach me all the usual ways.
