Tir Natur - A New Wales-Based Rewilding Charity

Tir Natur is an aspiring, Wales-Based rewilding charity (1), with the purpose of tackling the nature crisis through the large-scale restoration of ecosystems. The natural world is under threat, with 1,000,000 species at risk of extinction globally (2). This problem lies at our doorstep, with Wales ranking 224th out of 240 countries in the measure of biodiversity intactness (3), and it is time to act.
Rewilding in Wales got off to a rocky start, amid misconceptions about its outcomes, and its impact on farming. However, the model of rewilding that we envisage for Wales doesn’t just accommodate farming, it fundamentally relies on it. Native cattle, ponies, pigs and deer act as ecological proxies for their wild ancestors, shaping the ecosystem and creating a dynamic mosaic of habitats. Furthermore, lost species such as beaver, pine marten and red squirrels could potentially be reintroduced.
Tir Natur has three overarching goals:
1) To Inspire - Our main goal will be to raise funds, buy land and rewild it, hoping to inspire others to do the same. We will demonstrate how rewilding works best within farm systems, and stress the key role of natural grazing systems in ecosystem restoration. We will also showcase small-scale rewilding for land that cannot accommodate large herbivores. We will mimic their behaviour to create structurally diverse and dynamic ecosystems.
2) To Connect - We will launch a 'Wilder Wales Network', connecting people and projects of all sizes across Wales that put nature first. From gardens to graveyards, farms to community initiatives, we want to encourage everyone to play their part in nature recovery. If you own land, or are part of such a project, then please get in touch! Alongside the map of projects on our website, there will be a 'Wilder Wales' blog - with stories from around Wales about how people have reconnected with wild nature in some way - wild swimming, foraging, wild camping etc. Again, get in touch if you'd like to contribute.
3) To Inform - We will promote the principles and outcomes of rewilding in Wales, and advocate for the reintroduction of natural processes and missing species where appropriate. We will address some of the misconceptions surrounding the term, and inform on the many benefits rewilding offers not just for nature, but for the wider physical environment, social well-being and local economies.
We have lost so much, and the precious little that is left is vanishing before our eyes. Yes, this is alarming, and overwhelming, but rewilding offers hope. It is time for a new narrative; a reimagining of what is possible to achieve in our landscapes.
The target amount for this fundraiser will help us with initial set-up costs, including branding and website design, so that we can effectively communicate our message to our audience. We would very much appreciate anything that you could donate to help get us up and running.

Mae'r byd naturiol dan fygythiad, gyda 1,000,000 o rywogaethau mewn perygl o ddiflannu ym myd-eang. (2) Mae'r broblem hon ar garreg ein drws, gyda Chymru yn safle 224 o 240 gwlad o ran cyfanrwydd bioamrywiaeth (3), ac mae'n amser gweithredu.
Cafodd ailwylltio yng Nghymru ddechreuad anodd, ynghanol camsyniadau ynghylch a'i ganlyniadau, a'i effaith ar ffermio. Fodd bynnag, mae'r model ailwylltio yr ydym yn ei ragweld ar gyfer Cymru, nid yn unig yn darparu ar gyfer ffermio, mae'n dibynnu'n sylfaenol arno. Mae gwartheg brodorol, merlod, moch a cheirw yn gweithredu fel dirprwyon ecolegol i'w cyndeidiau gwyllt, yn llunio'r ecosystem ac yn creu mosaig deinamig o gynefinoedd. I Ysbrydoli - Ein prif nod fydd codi arian, prynu tir a'i ailwylltio. Byddwn yn dangos sut mae ailwylltio yn gweithio orau o fewn systemau fferm, ac yn pwysleisio rôl allweddol systemau pori naturiol wrth adfer ecosystemau. Byddwn hefyd yn arddangos ailwylltio ar raddfa fach ar gyfer tir na all gynnau llysysyddion mawr. Byddwn yn dynwared eu hymddygiad i greu ecosystemau strwythurol amrywiol a deinamig.
I Gysylltu - Byddwn yn lansio 'Rhwydwaith Cymru Wyllt', gan gysylltu pobl a phrosiectau o bob maint ledled Cymru sy'n rhoi byd natur yn gyntaf. O erddi i fynwentydd, ffermydd i fentrau cymunedol, rydym am annog pawb i chwarae eu rhan mewn adferiad byd natur. Os ydych yn berchen ar dir, neu'n rhan o brosiect o'r fath, cysylltwch â ni! Ochr yn ochr â'r map o brosiectau ar ein gwefan, bydd blog 'Cymru Wyllt' - gyda straeon o bob rhan o Gymru am sut mae pobl wedi ailgysylltu â natur wyllt mewn rhyw ffordd - nofio gwyllt, chwilota, gwersylla gwyllt ac ati. Unwaith eto, cysylltwch â ni os hoffech gyfrannu.
I Hysbysu - Byddwn yn hyrwyddo egwyddorion a chanlyniadau ail-wylltio yng Nghymru, ac yn eiriol dros ailgyflwyno prosesau naturiol a rhywogaethau coll lle bo hynny'n briodol. Byddwn yn mynd i’r afael â rhai o’r camsyniadau ynghylch y term, ac yn rhoi gwybod am y manteision y mae ailwylltio yn ei gynnig nid yn unig i natur, ond i’r amgylchedd ffisegol ehangach, llesiant cymdeithasol ac economïau lleol.
Rydyn ni wedi colli cymaint, ac mae'r ychydig bach gwerthfawr sydd ar ôl yn diflannu o flaen ein llygaid. Ydy, mae hyn yn frawychus, ac yn llethol, ond mae ailwylltio yn cynnig gobaith. Mae'n bryd cael naratif newydd; i ail-lunio'r hyn sy'n bosibl ei gyflawni yn ein tirweddau.
