About Angelique

Angelique Godwin is a passionate advocate and leader who has made significant contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. Recently named the Director of Transgender Equality at Equality Florida, Angelique has tirelessly worked to promote transgender rights and equality across the state. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing policies that protect and uplift the transgender community, making her a beloved and respected figure in our fight for justice.

Angelique is a resilient individual who has faced numerous challenges with grace and strength. As a Black trans woman living with diabetes, she has shared her personal experiences on platforms such as the "Diabetics Doing Things " podcast, highlighting the unique challenges and intersections of her identity. Her story is one of perseverance and courage, inspiring many to stand up for their rights and live authentically.

In addition to her advocacy, Angelique is a renowned drag performer, captivating audiences with her performances and using her platform to raise awareness and support for LGBTQ+ issues. Her artistry and charisma have made her a celebrated figure in the drag community, where she continues to inspire others with her talent and advocacy.

Surgery

Angelique recently underwent Gender Confirmation Surgery (GCS) on July 29th, a crucial step in her journey towards self-affirmation. This surgery is not just a medical procedure; it is a profound step towards living a life that aligns with her true identity. However, the recovery process is extensive, requiring time off work, specialized aftercare, and support to ensure a smooth and healthy recovery.

Why I Need Your Help

While Angelique has always been a pillar of strength for others, now is the time to rally behind THE 'Dancing Diva' and show your love! Our dazzling diva will be off her feet for a few weeks, which means she won't be able to perform and generate her usual income. So, I am raising $2,500 to help mitigate the following costs:

Angelique and I have been colleagues and friends for over a year now, and I have witnessed firsthand her unwavering commitment to justice and equality. One of the most memorable moments we shared was organizing, mostly her, a statewide rally that brought together hundreds of supporters to march to the Florida State Capitol. She is a true visionary who fiercely executes her ideas from start to finish. Her passionate speech that day moved many to action, and it was a powerful reminder of her ability to inspire and lead.

Angelique's recovery will not only allow her to heal but also enable her to continue her vital advocacy work and her impactful performances as a drag performer.
