$100 TIP FOR A PORTER = 1 MONTH OF FAMILY MEALS
Hi, my name is Shane Burrell and along with 40,000+ others around the world, my wife and I along with a team had planned to conquer the wonderful Mt Kilimanjaro this year... but of course due to Covid-19 that’s not happening. And as disappointing as it was for us, we're fortunate to have other options.
For the teams back in Tanzania it’s a different story..
Hi, my name is Shane Burrell and along with 40,000+ others around the world, my wife and I along with a team had planned to conquer the wonderful Mt Kilimanjaro this year... but of course due to Covid-19 that’s not happening. And as disappointing as it was for us, we're fortunate to have other options.
For the teams back in Tanzania it’s a different story..
7 months down the line and the mountain guides, porter crews and cooks who operate the mountain on a daily basis have lost all income and are struggling to make ends meet.
We have kept in constant communication with the company who I climbed with back in 2016 and things are going from bad to worse. So for my 40th birthday this year, I've decided to give back to these guys and do something for them and for as little as $100 we can sustain a family for a month with basic food and cooking supplies.
These guys tirelessly serve us while we raise money for others in need, but who's there to help them when they're in need?
If we could tip the porters as if we had just completed the climb we could support the entire team and their families for a minimum of 1 month.
At the same time, I will be making an attempt at a virtual climb of Kilimanjaro using a steep incline treadmill, walking the full 34km and 4200m elevation gain. Join me on Instagram as i go live and share the journey with some of our favorite mountain guides and friends across the world.

FINANCES:
We will be working with the UK company (Tanzanian Rift Valley Safaris) who oversees the administration for the guides to ensure every $ makes it into Tanzania and is accounted for with a paper trail of receipts and proof of purchase. At the conclusion of the fundraiser, a list of recipients will be made, goods will be purchased and delivered to each individual. We will generate a report at the end and supply to all donors through this platform.
Each step of the journey and report back to you. We might even get a song from the team :D
