Hello,
*UPDATE*
I am so unbelievably grateful for the amount of support Tio ended up getting. I am so in awe, I can not begin to thank everyone enough.
Tio is finally able to go home today! He has reached a stable condition that the veterinary staff are happy to have him go home. His red blood cell count has been stable with his new steriod medication, they aren't optimum but they are high enough to be normal for his circumstance.
For the next 3-6 months he will be getting weekly check up to see how he holds on the steriods, and as long as he stays stable for 3 weeks straight they can begin to ween him off of his steriods.
We're so happy with his progress and slowly but surely he'll come back to being his silly big self. He is happy and comfortable and that is all we ever wanted for him.
I will be withdrawing a partial amount of money from the go fund me today to pay off his last outstanding bills of his last 2 night stay.
Thank you all for the support, I will keep everyone posted
*Original story*
I was told this might be a good idea to help relieve financial stress.
This is our baby boy, Tio. He's an 8yr old Staffie/Rottweiler. We've had him since he was 1 month old. He's the happiest dog you will ever meet, a gentle soul, a lap-dog at heart, a gentleman and a very silly boy.
Unfortunately Tio took a sudden turn for the worst last week. We noticed he wasn't bubbly or excited about anything as he always is, so we brought him to the vets on the 30th of July and he has been in the veterinary hospital ever since.
He had emergency bloods done and it showed that his red blood cells were at a critical level. He was on deaths door. During his hospitalization he has had half a dozen blood tests, CT scans, CAT scans, IV drips of all sorts, steriods and a bloodtransfusion and more to come.
After being a medical mystery for the past few days, we found he has a condition called IMHA. In short, it's a condition that causes his white blood cells to attack his red blood cells. Right now what we are trying to find out is what is causing this disease and why this affected Tio so suddenly.
His health declined so severely that on Aug 2nd the only option besides the €1k blood transfusion was to euthanise. There was no guarantee that his health will stabilise and he may have had days to live without it. With luck and love, the transfusions and steroid meds can save his life.
Unfortunately, his bills are becoming extremely expensive, we tried to balance it all out between the family but it is becoming increasingly difficult to afford everything. Since the 30th of July we have spent €3.4k on Tio's treatments, not including more outstanding vet bills we are yet to pay. Tio will still need future tests and will need more vet visits and blood tests in the future.
We need help to find out the cause of Tio's health decline and to save him from euthanasia. Every little helps
