My name is Nick, I live in San Francisco.  I am raising money to help a local lady in my work neighborhood (the Tenderloin) get the intestinal repair surgery for her dog - after it was STRUCK AND CRUSHED BY AN OFF DUTY POLICEMAN.

Nikki Weems is the Grande Dame of the block where I keep my workshop.  She's a TL lifer, who has survived and lived through more hardships than I care to count.  She's a trooper and a lovely woman who always has a smile, a sweet word and Tiny Tina (aka Mama) - the chihuahua - by her side.

While she was crossing the street with her partner and dog, a driver barelled down on them in the crosswalk, easily going 50 in a 35 mile zone.  He struck Tiny Tina and continued going.  He slowed down and stopped almost a full block away, and after a few minutes what appeared to be a plainclothes policeman emerged from a car and spoke to the driver (who was later discovered to be an off duty policeman).

The policeman that ran over the dog refused to go to the scene or speak to Nikki.  

Eventually, he was let go.  

Tiny Tina remained in shock.  After failing to secure a taxi, Nikki was given a ride in the squad car to the SPCA


Now, Mama's legs have been broken and her tail has been mangled.  But worst of all, her intestines have been pushed to the side and above her pelvis.  She is currently out of the hospital but needs a few operations , within the next two months, if she's going to last.  

I really, really, can not stress how important that dog is to this lovely woman and, so to, our grouping of blocks.

I'll be posting videos and photos, and updating things as more information comes out and we get Tiny Tina where she needs to be.
