Tiny the twin foal vet bill
Donation protected
On Friday the 24th my mare Cricket went into labor around 9pm. She foaled a beautiful colt and everything went smoothly. After about 10 minutes of bonding with her new baby, she laid back on her side and started shaking and pushing again. It upset me as she had never acted like this before with previous foals so I ran back to her hind end expecting to see her passing placenta and instead saw a very odd shaped not a placenta, I grabbed it and felt another foal inside and it was small and not moving. Assuming it was dead I helped her deliver it. It moved a little and I tore open the sac and in there was the tiniest, rack of skin on bones I had ever seen that was breathing. I got him out and toweled him off aggressively to stimulate his breathing and boy was it raspy. I called the stallion owner who is a good friend of mine and told her and then called the vet. I have never had twins before, we always pinch. This mare was scanned multiple times and there was no twin ever seen. He couldn't get up and was super weak, I milked colostrum from Cricket and syringed as much as I could in his mouth which he sucked in eagerly. I got him up every 45 minutes and was finally able to get him to stand assisted for a few minutes. I took him to the mare and he did grab a teat for a few seconds, but he was so weak he didn't want to stay standing assisted for too long. The vet came out at 8:30 the following morning and she check the little colt forst and then his brother. The little guy's Igg was not as good as his brother's so the vet had thought ahead and brought frozen colostrum with her and he was tubed with it, one bottle and then the 2nd bottle an hour later. She also placed an NG tube so we could feed him every hour. She came back that evening to recheck his Igg and it was now greater than 800 so we got enough in him in that 12 hour passive transfer window. This page one of my boarders created shows picture and videos of his journey so far. https://www.facebook.com/TinyTheTwinFoal/
Over the last 6 weeks there have been ups and downs and a whole lot of vet visits and the bills just keep mounting on top of the other vet bills. His formula is running $400 a month and all the bandaging materials and various salves are adding more. I am not not to ask for help as I pay all my own bills, but due to the unexpected economic climate, my sales have slowed and I still have a lot of horses to feed. This fundraiser is specifically for the balance of Tiny's vet bill up to this date. Hopefully, every vet visit is for a non emergency and routine check up that is affordable.
Thank you for reading and donating. If you would rather donate to the vet directly, you can call Keswick Equine Clinic in Gordonsville, VA.
