This is Josie “JoJo”. She’s the sweetest lil furbaby. She is 17 months old. Weighs only 4 1/2 pds. When she was born we had her forever home lined up. Something told me she was special, and I just couldn’t let this one go. I kept her and ever since she developed a strong bond with all of us. She’s her mama’s shadow for sure. Wherever her mama is, you will find Josie on her lap! Josie was always very small. When she was about 5 months she had hypoglycemia. Then about two months later she had a seizure. Her doctor put her on seizure meds. It was mentioned that a liver shunt was a possibility. Over the next couple months, Josie would have episodes of hypoglycemia. She would occasionally have to be taken back to the vets. They recommended an ultrasound be done to check for a liver shunt. Her mama saved money and got the ultrasound. The results were inconclusive, and they couldn’t see a shunt, but couldn’t rule one out either. At that point, a CT scan was advised. Her mama again saved up for the CT. Josie had a CT on December 19th. Unfortunately, the results came back showing she did indeed have a liver shunt. We had been pricing the cost involved for this type of surgery ever since the seizure. We were told approximately only five places could do the surgery. One being Blue Pearl, U of M, and OVRS. The costs ranged from $6500-$9500…. And up to $12000. Depending on her length of stay. I was told the average vet could not perform that type of extensive surgery. One day in October, I had to take another furbaby to Wilson’s in Washington Township for an emergency visit. While there I mentioned Josie’s health condition in conversation. A tech mentioned they actually had one veterinarian that performed that surgery in the past., for me to give him a call. I did, and set up a consultation. Good news and bad….. HE CAN PERFORM HER SURGERY FOR A FRACTION of the others costs. The bad news is, I have spent an excessive amount for her testing, doctor visits, and medication. I refuse to let her suffer, and scheduled her surgery anyway. I put down the low end amount needed to schedule it. The low end was $2500. The high end was a little over $3500. That’s with her stay being at two days. It can be a longer stay. Also the cost does not include any aftercare. She will be needing frequent aftercare visits and blood work up done quite often to check her liver levels etc.. She will require medications until she remains stable. Her doctor stated after a few months, she can go off all meds. My dream and hope for her!! As now, since March of last year, she requires meds every 8 hours!! She hates the taste of one of them!! Cannot miss a dose as it could cause a seizure if we did. Without this surgery, her life expectancy is only a year in a half to two and half years. .. if by chance longer, she will suffer. She’s approaching the year and a half soon!! I cannot loose my baby girl. As I just had one of my old timers put to sleep before Christmas, and it tore me apart. I cannot go through that again so soon! Josie has one shunt. That’s a plus. Sometimes there are numerous ones. Also without surgery, she will eventually develop stones, and organ failure. She will suffer as it will be painful the vet stated. This is where we set our pride aside for the sake and well being of my lil furbaby. It kills me to post this!! I have always been the type to go without and never ask for assistance. If possible, anything is greatly appreciated. I know it’s a tough time for everyone!! Do not feel obligated!! Prayers are desperately needed the most!!! I have Venmo. Cash App. And my grandson is doing a Go Fund Me. Also, Wilson’s has agreed to accept payments on her behalf since a deposit has been made and surgery has been scheduled. Her surgery is scheduled for January 28th. I thank everyone in advance for your help. Whether it be financially or Prayers!! I do believe in the power of prayer!!
