Help Support Our Granddaughter Wrenley’s NICU Fight

On July 20, 2025, our beautiful granddaughter Wrenley was born at just 22 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound. She is truly a miracle baby, and while we are incredibly thankful she made it into this world, her fight has only just begun.

What Happened
Just a few days earlier, on July 17, our daughter Hannah—who was 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant—went to the doctor with some minor concerns. At that time, everything looked fine.

But on July 18, Chad’s birthday, everything changed. Hannah wasn’t feeling quite right that day but went to work anyway. The discomfort continued throughout the day and became more concerning that evening while they were in Rochester trying to celebrate. After dinner, they made the decision to get checked out—just to be safe. They expected to be reassured and sent home.

Instead, they were told Hannah was in early labor. Her membranes were exposed, and her amniotic sac was slipping into the birth canal, putting her at high risk for rupture. She was rushed by ambulance to Mayo Clinic, and in an instant, their world turned upside down.

Over the next 24 hours, Hannah and Chad were met with difficult conversations and decisions. Doctors explained that no life-saving interventions could be made unless the baby reached 22 weeks. But Hannah was already in active labor, and it became a race against time. We prayed desperately for her to hold on—and by some miracle, she did. Just after midnight, the clock turned to July 20, and she reached exactly 22 weeks.

That morning, an ultrasound confirmed that delivery was imminent. At 7:57 a.m., Wrenley came into the world with a tiny but mighty squeak—fighting from her very first breath. The NICU team worked urgently to stabilize her. At one heartbreaking point, it looked like she might not make it, and Chad was brought in to say goodbye. But our Wrenley wasn’t ready to give up. She fought hard, was stabilized, and transferred to the Mayo Clinic, Saint Marys NICU, where she remains today, under exceptional care.

Where Things Stand Now
Wrenley is considered a micro-preemie. She’s on multiple machines, medications, and is constantly monitored. So far, she’s responding well and showing signs of strength. She already loves keeping her hands up by her face and has completely charmed her nurses.

On July 22, Hannah was discharged from the hospital, marking the first night they had to be away from their daughter. This chapter will be incredibly difficult for them—trying to heal, keep up with daily NICU visits, and manage all the emotional highs and lows of this unexpected journey.

Why We’re Reaching Out

If you know Hannah and Chad, you know they are not ones to ask for help easily. But right now, we know it’s okay to lean on the love and support of our friends and community.

This experience has brought not only deep emotional strain, but financial burdens as well. Hannah and Chad are taking time away from work to be at the hospital, especially during these crucial early days where things can change quickly. While they know they can’t be there every second, they want to be there as much as possible—especially when Wrenley needs them most.

Many of you have asked how you can help. Any support offered would help ease the weight they’re carrying and allow them to focus on Wrenley’s care and healing.

Your support will help cover:

  • Lost income from time away from work

  • Travel and gas expenses for daily NICU visits

  • Meals away from home

  • Long-term care and needs Wrenley may require

And above all else, we ask for your continued prayers—for strength, healing, and growth for our sweet granddaughter. That is the greatest gift you can give.

where you can follow along with updates on Wrenley’s journey.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Wrenley’s fight. As her grandparents, we have already seen the power of your prayers at work in her life. God is moving in ways we can’t fully explain—through Wrenley and through the love and strength of those surrounding her.

Your love, encouragement, and support during this incredibly hard season means more than words can express. We are so grateful to have a community lifting our family up in prayer and walking beside us through this journey.

With heartfelt gratitude,
