Firstly, we need to say the biggest, most heartfelt thank you to every single person who has donated, shared our story, sent a message, checked in on us or simply kept baby Koa in your thoughts.
Because of you, we have raised over £50,000.
When we started this fundraiser, we never imagined we would need to ask so much of people. Every pound raised has meant more than we could ever explain, and we will forever be grateful.
As many of you already know, Koa’s cancer is so aggressive that back in March, he had cancer in his arm bones, his leg bones, his eye sockets. It was also in his ribs, his pelvis, his spinal vertebrae and in his skull. It was in his adrenal gland and in 80% of his bone marrow. Since then, Koa has had 3 central line insertions and replacements. Hes had 3 NG tube insertions. He’s had over 6 blood transfusions. He’s had daily injections. He’s had stem cell harvests, magnesium infusions, he’s had over 10 general anaesthetics, MRI scans and bone marrow aspirates. He’s has chemotherapy and immunotherapy. As you can imagine, this has been so devastating as a family. Watching our little baby go through this has been nothing short of anyone’s worst nightmare.
So much has been going on behind the scenes in these last 8 months and we are thrilled to bring you a really positive update on baby Koa’s progress.
Koa’s latest assessments are showing that his bone marrow now has no cancer in it. His mass is shrinking with each treatment and very soon he will be having major surgery to remove it. Koa’s bones are clearing the cancer, with only a little bit remaining in a small section of his skull.
Whilst this is totally amazing and Koa currently looks and is doing so well, soon he will begin the next phase of his treatment which will be extremely harsh on his little body. The chemotherapy will take his body to the brink of nothing, in order to slowly revive it back to health.
Koa’s cancer- High risk Neuroblastoma comes with a high replapse rate with approximately 40-50% of children who achieve an initial remission will experience a cancer relapse. This is something that we absolutely cannot let happen for Koa. We cannot put him and his tiny body through this again. Koa deserves to enjoy his childhood and experience things such as swimming pools and family holidays. He deserves to learn how to ride a bike and to start school and make friends. He deserves so much more than what his short life so far has given him.
Our baby is still fighting cancer, and we are now desperately trying to access private treatment that is not readily available through the NHS. This treatment could potentially give our baby an additional chance in his fight by significantly helping reduce him going into relapse. BUT…the cost is more than £150,000.
For us, this isn’t about wanting the best treatment or being able to choose between different options. It’s about wanting to explore every possible avenue to help keep our baby alive.
We know that seeing that we have already raised over £50,000 may make some people wonder whether we still need donations.
We do. We so so desperately do.
The £50,000 already raised has not solved the problem we are facing, it has shown us what is possible when people come together for our baby. We now need to raise a significantly larger amount to give us a chance of accessing this private treatment.
HERES HOW YOU CAN HELP KOA ‼️
We are asking you to help us share our story again. If you have donated before, please don’t feel that you need to donate again- sharing our fundraiser could be just as valuable to us. If you’ve only just discovered our story, please consider helping us.
£5, £10, £20, £50 or simply whatever you can afford genuinely brings us one step closer.
And if you can’t donate, please share this page. We need this story to reach people far beyond our own family and friends.
We are going to fight as hard as we possibly can for our baby.
Please help us give him the chance he so desperately deserves. £50,000 has brought us this far. Now we need your help to get him the rest of the way.
Once again, from the bottom of our hearts.
THANK YOU.

Hi, my name is Jharla and I’ve created this GoFundMe to support my sister Jerica and her husband Samson during an incredibly difficult time.
I still can’t believe I’m writing this…
In March, Jerica and Samson were given the devastating news that their baby boy, Koa, has a rare form of cancer. He is only 14 months old. As you can imagine, this has completely turned their world upside down and shaken our whole family. It still doesn’t feel real.
Jerica, Samson and Koa are currently at Bristol Children’s Hospital while Koa begins treatment, and they may be there for the next 12–18 months.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help towards travel, food (as parents aren’t provided meals), bills, loss of earnings and household support, and the day-to-day costs that don’t stop during times like this; all whilst trying to maintain normality for his older sister Nella. Plus financial support for any extra potential treatments Koa may need. If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this would mean just as much.
Please keep our little Koa in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and for any support you’re able to give.
For Koa
