Tina's Heart

Tina is an 8 week old puppy saved from a hording situation and brought into Pawfect Match in hopes of finding her a forever home. Tina went to the vet for a routine wellness check and it was discovered she had a heart murmur. It was originally estimated to be a 3/6 murmur to be watched and rechecked at a later time. At this point an amazing NCSU vet student, Shelby Scanlin applied to meet Tina. She brought Tina into NC State to double check her murmur. Another angel stepped in at this point, Dr. DeFrancesco and volunteered to use Tina's exam as a learning experience donating her time and services, including an echocardiogram and her first set of medication (almost 1,000.00 worth of services). Unfortunately, Dr. D. found out Tina's heart murmur was a grade 5/6 instead of a 3/6 and would need surgery in order to save her life.. The surgery generally runs anywhere between 3,000 and 4,000 dollars. With everything they did for Tina last week it will be closer to 2,000-3,000. Since she is so little they cannot perform the surgery until she is 5 months old. Her surgery is scheduled for August 17; however, until then she has medicine she has to take twice a day every day. The medicine dosage will increase as Tina does in size. This medicine will slow her heart rate and need for oxygen reducing the stress on her heart. She will have to have multiple visits to the vet to keep up on her growth in order to make sure her medication dosage is correct. Pawfect Match is run by volunteers and relies on donations to take care of all our puppies needs. If you can make any donation to help Tina it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
