Tim's Liver Transplant Fundraiser
Donation protected
Charles Timothy Keyser is a Veteran, Pastor, and loved family man in need of a liver transplant. Tim suffers from Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis AKA NASH. NASH the most severe form of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and it can lead to irreversible liver damage including cirrhosis. Tim is currently in decompensated stage 3 liver cirrhosis. His condition is severe and irreversible. This has led to complications including a Portal Vein Thrombosis and Esophageal Varices. Tim's father, Charles Brian Keyser, also suffered from NASH and eventually lost his fight in 2021.
Tim retired medically from the Army after 23 years of service. He now works as an Administrative Pastor for a local church. Tim married his wife Lisa in 1987 and they have enjoyed 37 years of marriage. They have four children, Kori, Sam, Molli, and Luke. Tim and Lisa just welcomed their first grandbaby in June of 2024. Tim's first born son, Charles Samuel Keyser is being screened to be a living donor and is preparing to donate half of his liver to his father.
Screening, surgeries, and recovery will all be done at the University of Maryland. The transplant will involve removing all of Tim's liver so he may receive half of Sam's. After roughly a year's time both halves will regenerate to full size livers. Tim's recovery will likely require a 7-10 day hospital stay. and take 3 or more months for him to return to work. It is usually one year for a liver recipient to make a complete recovery. Sam's recovery will likely require a 5-7 day hospital stay and 6 weeks to 2 months before fully returning to work. Sam works an active job with physical requirements which will affect his time frame on returning to work.
We are hoping to raise money to assist both Tim and Sam through the intense procedures. All of the money raised will be used for lost wages, travel expenses, and child care. We are expecting Tim's wife Lisa as well as Sam's wife Aly to take time off of work to assist them in their recovery. Sam and Aly just welcomed their son CJ in June. Sam's recovery is expected to impact his ability to care for CJ independently due to lifting restrictions. This will either impact Aly's ability to return to work or accrue extra child care costs.
Any extra raised money that was not needed for these reasons will be donated to the American Liver Foundation. We are incredibly thankful for the support of friends and family during this time and we look forward to Tim and Sam's successful procedures and healthy recoveries.
