Amy Woodhouse and Haylee Baird will be travelling to Timor Leste in June this year to teach at Padre Manuel Luis Primary School. This school is located four hours northwest of the capital Dili in Maliana.
We have both been awarded a scholarship through the University of Notre Dame to participate in the Timor-Leste immersion program. This program offers participants the opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of the history of one of Australia’s closest Indo-Pacific neighbours and develop a sustainable relationship with the local community in Maliana.
In preparation for our trip we will be organising a number of lessons and activities to deliver to students at Padre Manuel Luis Primary School. In order to provide these students with the most authentic and rich experiences possible we are asking our close family and friends to donate even the smallest amount of money towards our names.
These donations will be put towards two things; Firstly, the making of individual learning resource packs for every student in the school. Secondly, any raised money will contribute towards a major school project which will decided upon once the current environment of Padre Manuel Luis Primary School is assessed upon arrival.
We hope to bring as much as we can to the community in Maliana, to support them in the development of their school and students learning.
