Timers for Main Street Lights
Donation protected
23,000 bright white LEDs are being strung along Main Street in Gloucester MA by a citizen's group -- not by the city. The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club will put these lights on timers to shut them off after 11:00 pm to protect the night sky against all this new light pollution, but the club has no budget for this. Gloucester is one of the few places near Boston where you can still see the Milky Way at night. $1800.00 is the price we were quoted by the lighting project lead for timers and enclosures. Because of tight project schedules, the money has been fronted but must be repaid. Labor will be donated. You can come and see the results later this summer, and stay to enjoy the dark, starry skies.
