Like many other places, the COVID-19 virus has devastated the economy of Kiritimati (Christmas Island). The country was one of the first to limit travel and the Kaituau family, Timei and Tima and their daughters, the guides and the staff are all struggling.
If you've ever had the opportunity to stay at Lagoon View Resort with these wonderful people, you know how warm and welcoming they are. You leave feeling like family.
My booking agency (www.skinnywaters.com ) has connected many a traveling fisherman with the lodge. On February 18th, I had two fisherman from Montana sitting in the Honolulu airport ready to board a flight. This same day, the decision was made to suspend travel to the island.
The lodge has essentially had no visitors for 19 months and the situation is dire. Food and everyday necessities are scarce under normal conditions. Right now, there is almost nothing local, all basics have to be flown in. The family and staff who rely on Lagoon View for their livelihood have no where to turn. Please give what you can!
Once we meet our goal, the funds will be wired to the island. These monies will help with the basic necessities of day to day living.
