On the 6th November 2016, our precious baby son Noah entered into this world already sleeping with the angels.
As parents we never envisaged such a tragedy visiting our doorstep but that was the unbearable reality we had to face last November as our third child was born.
Heartbreaking as it was, the one thing that brought us much comfort during this time was the fact that we were able to bring Noah home and this was only possible through the availability of the only CuddleCot at Mayo University Hospital. By having the CuddleCot it meant that Noah could come home. It meant that Caolan & Elsa could be introduced to their baby brother in the comforts of our own home. It allowed our family & friends a chance to meet our beautiful boy & most importantly it allowed us as a family spend treasured time together, making memories that we will hold onto forever.
Without the CuddleCot and the support of Feileacain all of this would not have been possible. Feileacain is a newly formed, not for profit organisation formed by a group of bereaved parents that aim to provide support to anyone affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after. Feileacain have raised money in the past & supplied as many hospitals as possible with the much needed CuddleCot. Feileacain will also call to your home with their CuddleCot system and set it up for you.
The CuddleCot system is a small, light, specially designed cooling pad for use with deceased babies in any moses basket, crib, pram or bed. Manufacturers of the CuddleCot state, "Dealing with the death of a baby is clearly an incredibly difficult event for parents and bereaved parents should be given the option of spending time with their baby. Providing families time through the use of the CuddleCot is internationally encouraged by midwives, bereavement practitioners, still birth/neonatal charities, and academics. Time allows the family to form an important bond with their baby; whether changing a nappy, dressing the baby, taking photographs or simply just staying close and this unquestionably helps families in dealing with their loss. The problem is that in a warm room the baby’s condition can deteriorate quickly, therefore cooling the baby is absolutely essential. CuddleCot allows the family to spend every moment with their baby, precious moments where every minute counts."
Through the goodness of Feilecain and their generous donation of the use of a CuddleCot to our family we were gifted invaluable time with Noah. Feilecain also provide Memory Boxes and that is where we have our most valuable memories of Noah.
The time we had with Noah was so sacred and that is why we want to fundraise for another CuddleCot to be available in Mayo University Hospital. We want to give back to the maternity ward at Mayo University Hospital and to the Feileacain organisation and make sure that another family can have the same precious time with their baby like the moments we had with Noah. We hope to give back the love received from all the staff through gifting them this much needed resource & we want to carry Noah's legacy on every time a cuddle cot may need to be used.
We will be fundraising for the next few months to reach our goal. This will be different fundraisers throughout the campaign and we hope that you can support where possible.
The ultimate goal is to donate the Cuddle Cots to the unit by 6th November 2017, Noah's first anniversary.
