Time to Give Support Fund Kurt vonSchlemmer &Kids!
Recycled Sounds was a sanctuary and refuge for the Kansas City arts and music communities for nearly two decades. From 1988 until the store closed in 2006, owners Kurt von Schlemmer and Anne Winter nurtured a culture where adventurous music fans could shop for a wide variety of music, including obscurities that emerged from the independent and underground communities in Kansas City and around the country. It was also a hub for music news and events and, via in-store shows, a place to see hometown and touring bands perform.Now, support is needed for Kurt and their kids whom he raised on his own since Anne passed in 2009. All funds raised will go to support Eva and Max and Kurt who, since late December, has been diagnosed with and treated for leukemia along with pulmonary and heart issues, treatment that has included much time in ICU and long weeks in hospital after bone marrow transplant– all while assiduously trying to avoid covid.
Eva has moved back home to help her father recover and is contributing what she can. But the financial burdens have become daunting. Most of us know too well how, because of the state of health care in this country, any medical crisis can quickly toss a family into financial ruin. Funds are needed thanks to high premiums, high deductibles, the need for in-home care, plus food, rent and other daily expenses and obligations that must be met while Kurt is unable to work.
Recycled Sounds meant the world to those of us who shopped there, worked there, performed there and reaped the benefits of Kurt and Anne’s loyalty and dedication to the music community and its many causes. Here is another opportunity to express your appreciation for all that unconditional loyalty and support. Every nickel will go to assist Eva and Max and Kurt during his treatments and long road to recovery. Let's rally again in memory of Recycled Sounds and Anne to provide some well-deserved peace of mind to Kurt, Max and Eva!
