Many people know and love Alicia Hoemsen. Alicia is the director, creator, heart and soul of Strays the Can’t Pay, an amazing registered charity rescue that works with First Nations communities across Manitoba. In 2017 alone, Alicia rescued nearly 500 cats and dogs that would have otherwise never survived as strays. She takes in extreme emergencies and heart breaking medical cases that often require substantial vet bills that Alicia fundraises for but also pays out of her own pocket to help. Alicia has given so much to rescue; she has really given it her all. And now Alicia needs our help. 

Alicia is currently in the hospital with a global cardio malfunction. Severe global left ventricular hypokinesia specifically. She is on strict bedrest and only allowed to walk to the bathroom and then back to bed. Right now the bedrest is for a few weeks but could continue for months. They are still trying to find the cause; it could be cardiomyopathy or mycarditia. Not only does Alicia have animals and strays who depend on her, but she is also the only caregiver for her mother. While Alicia is on bedrest, her mom may go to respite leaving Alicia with no assistance or family at home.
