My name is Paola. My infant cousin Santi was born on March 2 to loving parents Santiago & Glenda. Prior to his birth, medical tests revealed that Santi would have a rare congenital heart defect called DORV or double outlet right ventricle. This means that the chambers of Santi’s heart did not develop properly and the result is that the blood circulated throughout his body is oxygen poor blood because it doesn’t come from the proper heart chamber.
Little Santi had his first surgery, on his pulmonary artery, when he was only 13 days old. Sadly, the surgery was not successful.
He had his second surgery 2 weeks later for two hernias on his left testicle.
On March 31 he was admitted to the hospital because he was having problems breathing and he is still in the hospital.
Santi is scheduled for heart surgery the week if April 10, but the doctors are concerned about his other organs because they are failing. The doctors also want him transferred to another hospital, but the transportation will put him at additional risk.
Santi is a beautiful baby born into a loving family. It was a real blessing when Glenda and Santiago were told that they were going to have a baby because they had been trying for 8 years. Grandparents, brothers and sisters, and cousins were all thrilled for them. And Santi's parents, like most, are committed to do whatever they can to allow him grow up strong and healthy.
Time is critical and so is Santi’s condition. Without the best care possible, Santi will not survive. But costs are mounting rapidly and family resources are limited. We have all prayed for help and perhaps this GoFundMe campaign may be the answer for the financial help we desperately need to save Santi’s life.
