Time for Sophy to Heal

[ ] My niece Sophy needs your help. I had never heard of MHS . Now my sweet niece is in the fight of her life to come back from just that, malignant hyperthermia susceptibility.
[ ] Sophy is a small town girl with a big heart. During her hospitalization her husband opened up to me about her kindness in her community. He told me stories about Sophy giving Christmas presents each year to children whose families were in hard times. He also spoke about the time she helped three homeless young men. She bought them new clothes , gave them meals and helped them get jobs. She never talked about these things. I should have known, Sophy is smart, has a sarcastic wit and is very kind. She is the oldest of 5 siblings and watched over them all when they were growing up. Her brothers and sisters are helping whenever they can to get her through this critical time in her life.
MHS is caused by a defective gene. After Sophy's heart surgery she was given anesthesia that trigggered a MHS reaction that caused her temperature to rise to 108 degrees. The high temperature caused brain disruption. The neurologist said she has no brain damage. Her neurons just need time to awaken and reconnect. This will be a long recovery. Sophy needs to stay healthy until her brain catches up. This means constant attention to all her needs and especially, maintenence of her respirator. We have been taking shifts to be with her everyday.
With prayer and God's blessings Sophy has been showing Improvement everyday . First it was just a movement of her eyes or a frown after another injection. Now she turns her head, kisses her husband , blinks her eyes, lifts her head off the pillow, and smiles. Yesterday she mouthed the word tailbone when asked where the pain was affecting her. She cannot say the word because she's still on a respirator. She has feeling in her arms and legs but cannot move them yet. God bless her, she is fighting to get better.
After 2 months of cardiac ICU and then ICU post recovery care, she was moved to long term recovery care. A family member is with her each day. Because of Covid she is allowed only one visitor a day.
After 40 days Post Recovery Care the insurance will not cover the extension of long term recovery care. She would be moved to sub care which is not as attentive as long term care. I've heard it called Warehouse Care. She needs her family with her every day to help with the connections in her brain. Doctors have recommended that she be home and have Family Care.
[ ] The emotional and financial strain to the family is taking its toll. Daily visits to the hospital which is 40 miles from their small town is starting to run up a huge credit card bill. My sister and her husband will be caring for Sophy in their home when Family Care begins. The insurance will help pay for the machines and the bed but Sophy will need extra care to fully recover. I am asking for any small donation to help ease the burden so that they can focus on Sophy's recovery. Not only is your help financial, but the blessings will also help to lift their hearts.
[ ] Thank you and God Bless.
[ ] Sincerely, Auntie Sophia
